Lakemaster vermilion map hangs my computer

delcecchi

Question

Just got the lakemaster map and vermilion upgrade. Unfortunately after using it a little while it hangs hard, requires a poweroff to recover.

Running ME on a Dell/700 MHz Celeron with 128MB.

If I am careful to wait for every operation to complete before clicking it will go for a while. If I try to move again or zoom again before it is finished, that will hang it almost every time.

Any suggestions?

All the mapping software programs are "memory hogs" - add as much memory as you can afford, but 256MB total is considered a minimum for "good speed and reliablity", 512MB is MUCH better.

Also, you might try un-installing the program, doing a DEFRAG on your hard drive, and re-installing the program.

Try turning your graphics acceleration down.

on your desktop right click on my computer. Then click properties, on the next window click the preformance tab at the top. then on the next window click the graphics tab that is down by the bottom, the next window will have a slide bar that you can move to turn down the graphics acceleration.

Tried turning down the graphics. didn't help. Haven't bought more memory, but I am not convinced that is the problem.

Did an experiment. If I wait like a minute or so between clicks or events so I am absolutely sure it is done with the previous command it seems to work better. If as previously I just clicked at a normal rate it would hang in just a few commands, like two or three.

Next experiment will be to install on my laptop at work, see if it hangs there.

Perhaps I need to reinstall windows. It's been a couple of years.

Hi Del,
taxman is most likely correct.

The LakeMaster software works great on every other Windows operating system I've seen it work on .

Good luck Del.

I wasn't casting aspersions on lakemaps software. I figured it was something wrong with my computer. I've been sort of slack about installing updates, but haven't had a problem until now.

Guess I need to bite the bullet, reinstall then put on all the updates. Good job for a rainy evening.

I'm also going to move the map to my laptop with win2k.
