Meal worms

Has anyone ever tried using meal worms on URL? Do you think they would be an realistic option for bait?

I've always used minnows, but I don't see why mealworms wouldn't work. It probably all depends on what those wiley little crappies are in the mood for at the time! Give it a try, but bring a variety of baits in case they turn up their noses at the mealys.

Westwinds was selling "waxies" last week with the comment that folks were catching perch on them.

My two house partners fished them and one had a bobber go down but missed the fish. That was it.

I don't see meal worms in the bait shops anymore. Or maybe I'm not looking for them. All I use is minnows or spikes now.

i had a customer that raised them. and for the life of me i can not remember his name or where he lived he gave me a butter tub of them and the sunnies loved them and they were so tough. they lasted longer than waxies so more time fishing and less time baiting.he had them in big plastic garbage cans in his basement.said he fed them wheaties as i remember.

I know that in the spring/summer, my parents buy them in bulk to feed to bluebirds. They get them at any shop that specializes in birding. Might save you some money.

Try your local pet store.

Had a pet lizzard and we fed him meal worms that we bought at the shop we bought the lizzard from.
