0 rmh2o
I was wondering the same thing as I just won one yesterday and have only tried it out in the sink so far.
0 backlash 1
They look pretty slick, if I did more shore fishing, I'd have one for sure.
0 SCUMFROG
The only thing that's bad with those is you can't replace the battiers or turn it off. So after they go dead you have to buy another little green thing. But they do last for like 400 hours or some thing like that. Let me know if you like it I was thinking about getting one. I do alot of small pond fishing.
0 SCCO9803
I have a friend that has the regular smart cast witht the portable screen. He said that it only works really well if the water is really calm. He said that if it is windy or is used over current it won't pick up anything of any use, not even the depth. As for picking up fish, even on calm water it doesn't do that. I've seen them in action and also considered buying one, but have since opted against it.
0 Lost
I've owned both the RF10 (portable large screen) and the RF30 (watch) models. I really liked the RF10 except didn't like carrying the bulky thing around. The screen itself does a decent job and yes, it did mark fish for me. Just wish it told you the depth of the fish. The watch had, of course, a much smaller screen and even less detail than the RF10. It was difficult to keep an eye on the watch while reeling in the transducer (the little green thing) slowly to check out structure and locate fish. Plus, when it came to being dark the watch didn't have a back light (I complained about this to the Humminbird rep at the outdoors show). The RF10 model does have a back light which gave it a huge plus. The biggest problem I had with the system overall is that it didn't like choppy water or current. There is an RF20 model which is the watch model modified so it mounts to your fishing pole.
