1lb lp bottles

blue_healer_guy

Question

Looking through a magazine I got, they are selling a refill kit to fill them from a 20lb'er. With the iffy ice we are having, I have been going through a bunch of them in my portable and maybe thinking in the long run, it might be a good investment. 20$ and basically looks like a coupler connected to each tank. Anybody use such a thing?

[ Fishing MN doesn't recommend refilling these type tanks. ]

I would save the money and just get a 5 or 10lb tank. 1st, it's not recommended to refill the small tanks. 2nd, I have heard of the small tanks expoding cause of the pressure between the tanks.

I purchased a 10lb pancake style, I can have it refilled and run several items from the same tank. light, and heaters

2 if your looking for real warmth.

I had one of those years ago I never had much success I could not get them to fill properly.

I know there were people that were successful.

Can't imagine it would explode unless you were using a torch during the process...

i work with lp and it does work however u must have a full tank to fill these tanks due to pressure thier is not enough pressure after filling about 5 of them plus y i cannot say but when u fill your own they seem to only burn half the lp off i dont know why. if i were you i would purchase either the 5 or 10 pound tanks except they actually hold 11 pounds. in the winter you can fill an extra 1-2 pounds before opd shuts it of in the summer u can only fit 17 lb of lp into a 20 lb cylinder

i have used the refill valve and they do work. Hook everything up and tip the big tank upside down before opening the valve. It helps if you put the empty 1lb tank in the freezer to get it good and cold before filling.I have a couple of 1 pounders that I know I have filled 15-20 times. good luck

To keep this short & sweet for you. There will be those that say they work, those that say they don't, and those that won't recommend them either for legal reasons. Make sense yet???

The problem with refilling the 1lb tanks is it is perfectly legal to do so, yet 100% illegal to transport them in a vehicle. So unless you are going to use them at the place you refill them, you will be breaking the law.

This topic has been discussed in great lengths here at FM. I think if you do a search in the archives, you fill find some very heated discussions on this topic.

Does it work? Yes. But that doesn't necessarily mean its the right thing to do. Search the archives, you will find some good reading. smirk.gif
