Crow Lake Ice Conditions

I am heading up to Crow Lake and LOW this weekend. Has anyone been out on Crow in the past few days? If so, what are the ice conditions. Thickness? Snow on Crow? Slush on Crow? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just spoke with Paul. Sounds like Crow doesn't have much ice or snow. The lake has ice ranging from 3-4 inches in some areas to 6-8 in others. Sounds like the snow cover is spotty. There is some slush but doesn't sound like much a problem. As usual, LOW has plenty of ice -- not sure about the snow/slush situation there.

We'll be at Paul's this weekend too.

I guesss I assumed they've been traveling by sled. Paul's been out a couple times in the last few days on what I assume to be sleds. Guys staying with him have been heading back into Rowan. Once again, I assume by way of Crow and on sleds. Sounds like the bite has been off and on.

Forecast for I-Falls is calling for a low of 13 tomorrow night so lets make some ice and then get a little snow.

I'm planning a trip up 1/13-1/15 and fish some of the lakes east of Rowan. Hill & Lawrence. Ice and slush conditions would greatly be appreciated after you guys get back. THANKS...

I have been out on crow and LOW the last few days. Crow has 4-6 inches of ice, with snow cover and some slush pockets. I have been using my snowmobile. Lots of people have been on the lake and also travelling it to get to Rowan and other lakes. LOW has 10 inches of ice in stevens bay. But large, yet shallow, sluch pockets. I have been doing good for trout. Biggest one being maybe 5 pounds so far. And some nice crappies in the 12-13 inch range.

Was up on Crow area lakes this weekend. Traveling conditions were good, minor patches of slush, snow varied from bare ice to 4 inches. Where there was slush it was only an inch or two deep. Did not fish Crow, but a nearby lake had 7-8 inches of ice. Fishing was good, used white tubes and airplane jigs.

Yes, I traveled Crow all the way across, west to east. Conditions were the same as I reported, no problems. The portages were fine, a little rough, but snow covered. There were a few rocks sticking out but passable. I have heard of some of the portages that involve flowages being open, but didn't cross any of those. From Crow to Cameron was good.

The portage from Crow to Cameron to Rowan was reasonable. A little more snow would help but four of us had no problem with the trip out and back.

Were the ice conditions any different on Rowan? Have you ever gone into Hill or Lawrence from Rowan?

Rowan seemed to have less slush than Crow but we did not put near the miles on Rowan as we did on Crow. We only went as far as Rowan, fished a couple of spots then went back.

CN Guy, Have you heard anything about ice conditions on the Manitou stretch. I'm in Snare Bay just before Camp Manitou. Can I get in? this weekend. Thanks, Manitou

I've been trying to get as much info myself for this week-end. The report on the Manitou is not good at all. lots of open water areas and slush. According to the locals and trappers, there's a lot of run-off and the swamps not froze. I've been told to use extreme caution on the Tou. Unfortunaltly there's so much more current compared to other lakes.

Crow Lake has been hot so far this winter, Al Lindner and Gary have stopped in to Muskie Bay Resort on Crow Lake the last few days and have caught 13-15 trout in a day on Crow Lake they seem to be having a great time. The ice is good to travel on, groups are still going up to Rowan and Otter Skin some groups up to Cedar Tree for Walleye haven't been as succesful. I haven't had to many people interested in Crappie fishing. Trout seem to be the hot fish to catch. Catching trout 40-60 feet with white 4inch Berkeley tube jigs.
