What's the best laser bore sighter ?

Valv

Question

I bought a Cabelas laser boresighter, but she's going back tot he shop, waht a piece of.....it is bent out of the box, threw my gun out of sight in really bad and took me over 1.5 boxes of ammo to get it back.

Which is a good unit ? I thought maybe the cartridge style (shooting through barrel)will be more accurate, are they ?

I trust you are wanting to boresight your new Savage?

You can do a pretty good job w/o a boresight on a bolt gun.

Pull the bolt out of the gun, and place the gun in a rest on a table. Find a target about 40 yards away. A sapling works good for this. Look down the bore, and move the gun until you see the sapling as you look through the barrel. Now look up through your scope and see where your vertical cross hair is. Move your ajustment left or right until the crosshair and the picture down the barrel are both on the tree. This should put you on the paper at 50 yards.

That's what I did after I found out the stupid sighter thing is junk.

Thanks Gissert, yes it's for my new rifle, I am still mad I had to go throug so many rounds on a new gun just to get it to shoot right.....

We do the same as Gissert, only down stairs about 30 feet. With a semi auto, we take a little dental mirror and shine it in the chamber. Put a light at the end of the wall with a big dot on the wall , vise the gun, Move sights / scope accordingly.

Take the first shot at about 25 yards..

hello, i'm new here and have read many great things on this forum. i never thought i wanted or needed a bore sighter untill i had problems with a bad scope. i looked at a bushnell magnetic one (not lazer) and tested it at the store. it said to line it up appox. with the high of the scope... i did that and then moved it up and down 3/4". i was amazed it barely changed anything. i came home put it on the gun w/the new scope, adjusted, shot once and was on paper at 50 yards! (took all of 30 seconds!) adjusted scope, fired 2nd shot and was dead on! it was worth every penny of the $35 it cost. i will lend it to all my family and friends and recomend (sp) it to all. happy new year.

I don't have a lazer set up, but I have a BSA kit with the arbors and the old fashioned bore sight grid in the viewing piece. It works well and only cost me like $20 from Sportsman's Guide. Nice thing is the kit came with all caliber arbors up to a .50 cal for shotguns (which is the only thing I can't make work worth a rip...).
