Tip-up line

I use the vinyl coated braided line on tip ups regarless of species I am chasing, even crappies.

Connect a barrel swivel to the tip up line and run a mono leader for species of choice.

The vinyl coated line wont freeze up on your spool, or in a pile on the ice when/between landing fish. Its hard for fish to pull line when your spool is a brick of ice which happens a lot with braided if you store your equipment in a cold vehicle after fishing.

Vinyl coated tip-up line with a barrel swivel connected to 15 lb flourocarbon. I use this for both pike and walleyes. The flourocarbon is invisible in water yet is resistant (not bullet proof however) to pike bite offs.

Well...

I can't stand that vinyl coated tip-up line. It has so much memory once you spool it up. Every tip-up spool that I've had with the vinyl coated is a bird's nest in the making. It doesn't want to stay on the spool.

On the other hand, the vinyl coated line is incredibly strong and a bigger diameter which makes handlining it much easier. But don't get me started on tieing knots in the stuff. Sometimes I wondered how they ever held up.

I'm sticking with the the teflon coated for now. I like the stuff from Western Filament which is available at most major retailers.

Good idea my man! On my way by Red, I saw a few shacks sitting near the mouth of the Tamarack. That may fit the bill nicely for the day. Still a hit & miss crappie bite from what I hear.

If you can get over to Denny's in Roseau, could you pick me up some of their Cisco's. grin.gif Thats one of my favorite pike baits.

I've never purposefully fished Pike on Red but I think we may have to. Sucker minnows may be pretty good. I better talk to Jonny P. soon to see if he knows something.

I use Power Pro moss green musky line. 80 lb test and the thin diameter. At first I wasn't sure but now I'm sold. You can use it off your musky poles and and then reuse again in the spring. I just re-lined my tipups and left it on my musky poles but I'm sure some might like the dual use.

My thoughts exactly Chris, during the non primetime hours anyhow. Ciscoes I may still have, smelt too, and I can most likely get more somewhere up around here. You mention the Ciscoes you like....are those the bluer colored ones sold by the dozen on a styro tray pack, or the greyish 6pack vacuum bagged ones? Did you know they are actually Lake herring? I'll call around and try and get a line on some live big Baitfishes of one kind or another. My guess is some kinda live Baitfish this time of year but I've never fished Pike down there either. Pike on the woods and specks on the URL for me eh, but I'm always up for a change when need be.

Folks at the mouth could be spearing maybe, quite shallow there? Better get ahold of that JP fellow, he should know a bit about those URL Esox for sure.

Vacuum packed 6 pack. I had heard they weren't exactly Cisco's.

When I ask for Cisco's at Vado's in the cities here, they bring me to the "big" freezer and start pulling out fish over 1' long. shocked.gif

The 12 pack on the styrofoam tray aren't bad either but the 6 pack tend to be a little bigger deadbait.

Yepper we are on the same page, the ones in the 6pack are a bit bigger. I'll round some of em up between now and then.

Gonna have the wife grab some more 49 strand wire in gfks for me too so I'll be good to go thru winter.

Do you have any Doctor spoons?
