JR'S 2006 Ice Season

Recommended Posts

I have had the opportunity to try several of JR'S Tackle new products for the 2006 ice season. Here are a few that will compliment any fishermans ice arsenal.

The new "Ring'n Ice Rat" is one of my favorites. I have caught many fish already this season with this new plastic bait. I hardly ever buy minnows for Panfishing, these have shown to be great plain or tipped with a single Eurolarve or Waxie.

Available 1n 15 different color combinations. Jigheads also come in Glow Pink and Green. Plastic tails also come in Glow Pink, Green and Red tails.

"Ultra Glow" Glow drops, Moon Glows, Jig A Bits.

Super Neon Glow paint gives a little extra punch for these. And they have different color on front and back. They are available in #2 and #6. This PURPLE is outstanding. These pics show before and after a glow charge and I didn't even have to turn off lights. Simple test have shown these to still have some glow after 4 hours.

The ever so popular 9 Led flashlight. This is one of the best light out there for charging glow lures. And they hold their glow longer with this strong light. New improved on/off switch. Comes with a quick disconnect lanyard.

New 9 Led headlight. Choose from 3, 6 or 9 Led's. Adjust to various positions. I have used this in a Fishtrap Yukon and the was no need for a lantern or 12v lighting.

Wow, that's some new looking stuff! I like the extra flash on those flashers, and the glow plastics are a great idea too.

I just wish we had a JR's down here. It sure would be nice to walk through a store like that. Maybe an hours drive aint too bad.

Good post Brian!

Man I have to order some of those new Flasher spoons. Those are great walleye and crappie baits! That new LED headlamp looks like it will really toss out some nice light. Time to put in another order from Joel and the gang at JR's.

The 1/4oz Flasher spoons have always worked well for me on pike. Just tip them with a whole fathead minnow or just the head and then use it while you run and gun over your favorite flat. Those cruising pike will notice the spoon, the flash and vibration really draws them in, not to mention seals the deal once they get close enough for a taste smile.gif

I love their rod bag! It's got a spot for everything.

The LED flashlight has lots of uses and the big on/off button on the back of the flashlight works great. Even with heavy gloves on. The lanyard setup makes it very versatile.

And don't forget to mention these . I own a couple of them! I didn't take me long to compare the price of the higher end stuff vs. the Wallmart combos. With these you get all the quality and even have some money left over for some tackle.

In my opinion, you can't find a better combo unit at this price anywhere!

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
