I agree with Harvey... I've only needed it in under than 10 feet...

The one time I really needed it was when we were set up in about 15 feet of water over a submerged tree... the s-cable helped take some of the branches out of the picture and gave me a better view of where my jig was in relation to the fish...

I don't think I've used it since then... which was about 2 years ago... but I don't fish a lot of shallow water either I guess...

Suppression is Vex's biggest improvement in the fl18 over the fl8 so I would get it in a heart beat. Not only is it going to help in the shallow water and weeds but it'll help you determine bottom content/hardness not to mention getting ride of that red hot gob your jig can show up as. So think of all those times you've had your gain down to zero, thats when you need the suppression the most.

I agree with exactly what Surface Tension said. Before I put the S-cable on my FL-8, the gain control was always way down in somewhat shallow water (8-12ft) to eliminate clutter and make the jig show as just a blip rather than a blob. With the S-cable installed you can do a better job at fine tuning your Vex because the gain has a wider range of adjustability rather than just off of the "0" mark.

The Marcum doesn't have any problems with shallow water and suppression is not required. The first lake I fished with my LX-5 this winter was just seven feet deep and it still had plenty of low-end gain adjustment to fine tune my display.

LMITOUT

Thanks for the come back.

These bits of info. sure help construct the puzzle, while trying to decide on which model to purchase.

Have you any thoughts on this-

Whould it be fair to say the New model Lx2 has color and clearity upgrades compareable to Lx3tc?

Does this years Lx2 have improved interference rejection along with a 5' or 10' switchable zoom window?

The LX-2 has the same blended display like the Vexilar units the new LX3TC and LX-5 have 3 individual LED's and I have to say I will never go back to blended again. The definition between the colors on MarCum's new flashers are fantastic. I have one of my LX-3's getting upgraded to true color now and look foward to getting it back. I believe the I.R. is comparable to the LX-2's and LX-3's and from my experience with the LX-3 it's the best at eliminating interference.
