Shappell or Clam

Does anyone have experience with the Clam 2000 or the Shappell 3000? They're both about the same size and price is close depending on where you go. I haven't been able to compare them side by side yet.

One thing I like about the shappell is the windows. They have 2 large full width windows where the Clam has 2 small square windows. Other than that, I see very little difference.

If you own one, how much room is actually available for your gear like a buddy heater, depth finder, extra rods and minnows? Will a buddy heater heat the house fine, or is the big buddy needed? Are these really 2 person shelters, or is this like tents? If it says 2 people, it's one. If it says 3 people, it's 2?

Tear down and set up. How are they?

If price was no object, which shack is recommended?

Thanks!

Windows are nice to let a little daylight in but they are always impossible to see out of. My windows are either always covered with dew or frost. I guess I wouldn't let the amount of window get in the way of your decision.

Besides, that is just that much more window material that you have to be careful with to keep from cracking.

windows tend to get fogged up anyway. I usually keep the drapes off the window closed. Unless I use a Tip up. then I will use a window.

But really If I had to choose between the two, The clam is the one i would choose. thicker sled base, heavier canvas. Better zippers.

It's a no brainer..........

just bought new clam 2000,dome roof....been out 3 times with it....set up easy, except for the roof...hard to get x poles in the pockets, but it can be done...almost seems like there to long....real happy with it....and yes it is real comfortable with 1 fisherman, might be a little crowded with 2....also have the scout and the guide....the 2000 can be hauled in just about any car...go for the clam...

So clam it is. I was leaning towards it from the get-go, but I was thinking too much on the windows.

A buddy heater will heat it, eh? Even on those extra cold nights. I know that the Frabill Ranger XLT was a pain to heat with the buddy after dark, and my buddy's fish trap can be a pain when it turns cold. I suppose having a floor greatly helps matters.

I will be fishing with 2 people a lot of the time. This size is the only thing that'll fit in my truck and space inside the house for the heater, flasher, etc. has me a bit worried.

Tomorrow, I plan on heading into Gander and loading their display up with gear to get a sense of space. Hopefully it'll work out!

Thanks for the input. If anyone else has experience that they could share about the Clam, I'm interested!
