Strikemaster Mag III

I have an opportunity to buy a Strikemaster Mag III but I am not very familiar with these augers. When were they last made, what did they retail for new, what size/horse power are they, how well do they operate, and any other comments about these units would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

They're a great auger. 49cc Tecumseh engine, Walbro carb and a chipper blade. I've seen these sold used for dirt cheap, $75-$100.

I am fairly positive they have a Tecumseh engine, not briggs. I could be mistaken.

They are very good augers and very dependable. They will aslo use the more modern strikemaster auger bits(lazer) and cut faster than the new ones because they have a higher gear ratio(Mag III came with chipper blade).

The age of the auger, its not impossible it could use a good carb cleaning(normal small engine maint) or a screw tightened here or there... but they last many years as long as people keep proper oil in them.

I have had this same auger for atleast 15 years. The only problem I have had with it is that I need to change the fuel line every year or two (the press fit hose leaks at tank). Other than that, the auger seems bullet proof.

That Guy, what does this mean? Gas/oil mixture or gear case maintenance? I have never done a darn thing with the gear case on mine. On the chance that I am missing something, does the gear case require any maintenance whatsoever?

I own 2 of these augers, got them both for 70 bucks apeice. They are good augers, if you want to upgrade the chipper to a lazer blade system you can just buy the whole drill unit and it fits on the powerhead. Then you can sell your old drill unit on here

These are the 1 ton 4x4 pickups of ice augers. Heavy, loud, stinky, powerful, can't stop them. I love mine - a 3HP tecumseh with 10.25" chipper blade. Prime it good and fire it up, that's all there is to it.

I didn't know I could put a lazer bit on it! Sweet! I've been thinking of downsizing from the 10.25" chipper blade.

Service is great, too, from the guys in Big Lake. I dropped mine late last season an' busted the gas tank. I just drove over, walked in and they sold me one right from stock at the factory (it's a tecumseh part, not Strikemaster). They have cool Strikemaster stickers there, too.
