I read alot about the marcum-5 and vex-18. I was ready to buy, just wasn't sure which unit. I went to three differnet store. cabelas, joes, gander mountian, a couple weeks ago. all i could find was the vex fl-18. I was very dissapointed to not see the marcum, and i was not the only one. what happend how could marcum not have their units ready for ice fishing. long story short i went with the fl-18 and so did alot of other people. what happend.

I talked to (insert marcum owner's name here) at the ice fishing show on Saturday about this. He said that they're shipping out 500 units a week. He said that they're pretty comfortable about this number and don't have plans on increasing it now or in the future. His reason was that he doesn't want retailers to have an overabundent stock because they don't like sitting on a lot of units that will eventually be marked down.

I for one don't agree with this strategy. If I owned a resurant and had an item on the menu that I was consistanly running out of, I'd increase the quantity of that item to satisfy my costomers. If I run out, they may go somewhere else. The same goes for people looking for Marcum. If they can't find the LX-5 or 3 or whatever Marcum model, they're likely to pick up a different brand name.

If it were up to me, I'd send a higher quantity at the beginning of the season and taper off as the season continues.

Just my $0.02. BTW, I'm VERY happy with my LX-3, but I was lucky enough to find one last year. It took a while to find one in stock, and I had considered picking up an FL-18 had I not found the LX-3. I just think Marcum should restructure they're sales philosophy.

The only place I could find them a couple weeks ago was at Sportsmans Warehouse. When I got there they only had a couple on the shelf. I talked to customer service at Marcum that same week and they said that the units had been shipped to the retailors and they should start showing up on shelves soon. I guess I don’t understand the philosiphy either. It’s not hard for people to choose which unit to buy when there aren’t any Marcums on the shelf.

There is the option to order them online. The price is the same and one of the sites offers free shipping.

Same is true with the VS 560 cameras... The shipment may arrive this week for shipment to retailers. Their web site states that their products are made in the USA, but sounds like they are actually built somwhere else. I'll give them till Thursday this week to get them to Reeds, if they don't I guess it will be an Alantis or Aqua view camera that I'll own.

On another note, after hearing all the rave reviews about upgrading the LX 3, I sent my powerhead in the beginning of December and have yet to see it. I sent an email this weekend inquiring what was up, and got no response. I called Marcum yesterday, and was told they would ship it to me at the end of the week, and when I got home, had an email response saying it had been shipped to me on the day I called (yesterday). Time will tell if I receive it back this week.

Great products but I think they are making some big mistakes.

You are right they might switch to a different brand but they would be crazy to so something like that. The LX 5 is so far ahead of the competion it isn't funny. I have only used mine once so far this year but it has been unbeliveable. I thought it would be tough to improve on the LX 3 but they did it. If you really want one be patient and wait for one otherwise you are just throwing your money away.
