Depthfinder transducer tick - normal or problem?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new LX-3tc and noticed that the sonar buzz from the transducer is really loud. I tried it out on the ice last night and thought this might be a problem. For those of you that use Marcum units, is this normal? I'm assuming that it hasn't affected the fishing.

Thank you.

I myself have not noticed that Marcums is any more noisy than any other unit on the market. All trasducers make a ticking noise, that is how you get the immage. If it stops ticking you really have a problem.

I used the LX3 last year and didn't have any problems with the ticking, once I have it in the hole I cant hear it at all.

You should hear a ticking noise from the transducer.I just listened to my LX-3 and LX-5. Both have the same loudness of ticking. The gain does not affect the pitch or frequency of the transducer tick.

Yes, when the transducer is out of the water it makes a clicking noise, and it is very noticeable. It's normal.

It does not bother the fish either....at least not tonight's walleyes I caught with help from the LX-5. grin.gif

Hey, Dietz, that reminds me. In a thread a while back ( Marcum LX-3??? ) you mentioned this:

I have also been told its really not great on any tranceducer to run them out of water very long.

Do you recall where you heard that?

sch-I cant remember who told me that to be honest. I just know Ihave been told that and do my best not to run my unit a lot out of the water. Let me do some digging, I'll ask a few people in the "Know" and get back to you to see if this is a myth or fact!
