RonZych
What does everyone use as their favorite hook for tip-ups?I use the kahle style for northerns. Gold color is preferred when I can find them. They seem to have vanished from the store shelves.

icehousebob
For the last few years I've been using Eagle Claw 45 auto Bass worm hooks for northerns, anywhere from 2/0 to 4/0 sizes. I attach them to leaders made from Berkley plastic coated steel leaders. The offset point on the hooks have really upped my hookset average. minneman
Im into dead bait and Q/strike rigs for pikes, I make my own. there is a good discussion in the muskie/pike forum on this subject, and talk of circle hooks, Id like to give them a shot this year if I can find the right ones. hanson
Quick Strike RigThere aren't too many commercially available ones that I REALLY like. I did happen to stumble across some nice ones that Vado's Bait was carrying. They were made by a guy from Coon Rapids I believe. I'll be making a little trip over there soon and hope they still carry them.
Steve Foss
I tie mine with the Partridge VB hooks. It's a double hook, one smaller than the other. Small one goes in the bait, large one stays free. Just like any other quick strike rig, one is at the end and the other slides up and down depending on size of the bait. Problem is, I haven't seen these hooks anywhere on shelves for two years. I was told the company quit selling them, but December's In-Fisherman mag has a story about quick strikes for pike, and it features them.Anybody know if they're back on the shelves? hanson
Steve- I thought it was Mustad that was making those hooks. I quick cruise through their site and I came up with this. I've bought some commercially available QS rigs with these hook setups before but your right, I haven't seen those hooks in about 3 years now. They are on the Mustad site but I haven't a clue as to where they could be purchased.
irvingdog
Does anyone know if a jeweled treble, like the ones seen in THIS thread are legal under tip-ups by themselves? Do they count as rigs? I've got thousands of them, and thikn they might work well.
Random guy
I'm going to try circle hooks this year and see what happens. I have spoke with some of the old tip up gurus and some of the cat guys and I think this might be the ticket. Won't know til I try. Hopefully soon. wallydiver
Me too. I picked up some HUGE circle hooks last april. They're 15/0, do you guys think that's way to big for late ice pike on lake of the woods?
Random guy
If so you could use them on the ends of a tow rope.
wallydiver
Yeah, I don't even know why I bought them. They looked so big, red and shiny in the store that I had to have them. Maybe I'll use them to tow my house around.
