First Ice

I know it's nothing major yet, but a couple of sloughs and small ponds here had ice on them this morning... The high winds yesterday, must have really did a number cooling things down. Now if we could just get some cooler nights, maybe the big stuff will start freezing and my wife could start nagging me about going ice fishing all the time

Well deer season ends on sunday, so hopefully monday morning bright and early I'll be ice fishing. Well....maybe this is a little too wwishful thinking.

The cold is coming next week according to forecasts. Canada is going to get frigid and I hope some of that air moves our way.

Ya the forcasts are calling for much cooler air moving into Minnesota next week. Looking at the 15 day forcast for Devils Lake ND they are supposed to be getting down into the single digets by next weekend and getting into the middle teens around here. Hope the winds stay down and the lakes can make some ice.

Hopefully by Thanksgiving there will be some ice around somewhere in Minnesota!!!!!!!

I'm hoping to be out on Thanksgiving too...

Ivegottabite, the ice was on the old rearing ponds by Lake Sallie by the old hatchery. They still had ice covering them when I went home for lunch at noon, even though temp were in the low fifties. The ponds are from 0.5-1 acre in size. I also saw some sloughs by Cty 6 froze as well, and along hwy 10 in Lake Park and Audubon. It's just a matter of time......

deadhead-i hope you are right. it would be great to get out around thanksgiving! like someone said before, as long as the wind stays down it should make ice fast. the last couple days the lakes on hwy 34 have been like glass, that's what we need when we start makin ice

Weather report out of Fargo (KVLY) for next week are going to be condusive for making ice here around DL. Lows around 20 and highs in the mid to upper 30's and low 40's later in the week, with the possiblity of a couple of inches of snow to boot.

I'm hoping for 4 inches of ice by thanksgiving, for a little after turkey jigging....

the latest from NOAA, was cold temps much of next week, and 5-9 inches of snow in northern minesota tonight, with snow off an on all next week.

temps will be below freezing for highs for most of the week, so ice will follow soon. we still need to cool the water temps down before any thought of ice.

I have the week of thanksgiving off, it would be nice to hit ice, somewhere.
