Yamaha F-115 winterization tips

Does anybody have any? I've seen some stuff here but don't recall anything specific, mostly wondering about trapped water in the cooling passages. I took the transom saver off and tilted the motor all the way down and some water came out, will this be good enough?

yes, that will be good enough.

Do a search for same questions, and you'll see dozens of replies. Follow the instructions for any 4 stroke.

I have a 2003 Yamaha 115 4 stroke and changing oil is a bummer to say the least. make sure you have a LARGE oil container for it to drain into. I dont know if you have done it before but when you pop the oil plug out the oil drains down the outside of your lower unit and can be a big mess. Lots of paper towel is needed for cleanup. I think if a guy could hook up a fitting and hose to it that may help but getting it in as the oil runs out may be a bigger mess than its worth.

I change oil, drain lower unit and add the apropriate oils/lube to each then I take the plugs out 1 at a time and fog. I also run stabil in my last full tank of gas. Has worked fine for me in the past. Good luck to you.

Northlander, I have the exact same thing happen with the Honda oil change. It's pretty stupid (and messy). Fitting with a hose would solve the problem, I would think. Do you have another mess to clean up after (during) oil filter replacement?

I haven't paid any attention and I don't have any 4 stroke here now to check it out, but can you "suck" oil from dipstick ?

All the inboard motors don't have drail plug, you have to use a pump (manual or electric) and suck it out from dipstick tube.

There is got to be a different way, all this spilling cannot be healthy, and also can be illegal (you know, our tree huggers made it happen).

Cut the bottom off of an oil bottle and slip it up quick after you get the plug loose. Point the oil into any container you have that works for you. There are also oil fill tubes at a lot of dollar stores that have a flex section in the middle that work well. Point and shoot.

Hemlock the oil filter changing is easy amd mess free on my Yamaha. Im going to look into some sort of fitting and tube to try next summer on the next oil change. Thing is that oild comes out so quick I know its going to be a mess at 1st. Maybe over all it will be neater.
