Did I miss something on zones?

Recommended Posts

I have hunted the Bemidji area for decades. Last few years have been starting in Bemidji/Turtle River area then going to east Echo trail area in the Arrowhead area. Now when I started my north country deer week I always purchased the multi zone. This year I noticed that they are in the same zone (zone 1). I could have sworn that I had to buy a multi zone all these years because the Bemidji/Turtle River area was zone 2 and the Arrowhead area was zone 1.

Question - Did this zone 2 area shift west recently? Or have I been donating to the DNR?

Wooly1,

How's it going, it's your old Sales Rep from Maple Grove. I'm up here helping my Mom run her resort on Lake Vermilion now. It's been awhile! I'm also back in this darn Hardwood lumber industry. I'll give you a call sometime and catch up with you. Reagrding your question: heck, I don't know! Looks like you might have been donating the last few years. i haven't heard of any zone changes recently! Take care, buddy! Good luck with the hunt!!

Hey Babs,

Got a new handle I see. Good luck at Myrtle Lake. Remember you can't cook antlers!

You still brokering or into something new in the hardwood biz?

Hope you and your Ma had a good season. We went to Bemidji this year instead of the Big V otherwise I would have stopped into to harass you.

Take care and be safe in the woods.

Yes! There was a big zone shift this year!! There were public input meetings and the changes took effect for this years hunting season's...so, no, you haven't been "donating" any more than normal to the dnr...the 9 day zone shifted all the way to the north dakota border and part of zone 2 up to the canadian border shifted to zone 1...16 days, the affected blocks have also been "renumbered" so keep that in mind when they ask you which block you "mostly" hunt! Good Luck!

Thanks Fox,

As I stated, I have been doing my North Minny deer tour for several years and the last couple I never look at the zones because it was 2 and 1 respectively. Then I looked this year and wholly molly Turtle River is now in zone 1 and I had no idea when that happened.

Thanks for the clarification.

Wooly,

No, not in the mortgage biz anymore. I'm back into the Hardwoods. I'm the lumber buyer up at Hill Wood Products now. You guys deliver up to Cook? So what's the deal again? You will be up on Echo the second weekend is it? As the crow flys we're only 10 miles away, but actual travel time would be around an hour via truck. I could ATV the ditches and get there in about 30-40 minutes. I really should get over there, but we'll have to see if I can make it or not. I'm sure I'll bag dat tirty pointer on da opener then I'll be able to go visiting, so I should be able to make it. take care!

My usual trip is Bemidji opener till Monday then west end of the Echo till Saturday.

This year is kind of fouled up because my 13 yr old son can't miss that much school. So I was just going to Bemidji till Wednesday. But then last night when trick or treating we stopped at a fellow Buycker's house and my wife was there. Long story short, she told me to go to Buyck too. Now I jsut have to talk her into meeting me in Mpls. on Wednesday then I can turn around a head towards big timber on Wednesday. Hope you still have my cell or call Sportmans if you feel the need socialize.
