FL-18 on bow mount Minnkota

SuddenlySummer

Question

I see that Al Linder runs a FL-18 flasher on his bow mount Minnkota with universal sonar. My question is how well does this bottom lock zoom feature work with a boat thats rocking up and down with the waves?

I purchased a FL-18 when they first came out and it had a heckuva time keeping the bottom lock working when I was ice fishing.

I took it in for the update and it seemed to work better but does the zoom feature work well with the movement you get at the bow of a boat in open water?

I might not understand your post here. Are you talking about the FL18 unit itself or the universal transducer? so sorry if this is not the info you are looking for.

My FL-18 is great as a trolling motor mounted flasher. I have the vex 18 degree puck transducer. The bottom lock feature works great even when rocking up and down or moving over depth changes. The Bottom Lock feature should NOT be used when ice fishing. That is were the AutoZoom will work. And visa versa, the AutoZoom will NOT work when moving..Use AZ for ice fishing and BL for open water fishing and you should do fine.

Can the Marcum be hooked up to a universal sonar on the MinnKota's?
If I can recall right, I think it can't but in not 100% positive on that.

No, Marcum doesn't have the "bottom lock" feature.

And keep those hooks sharp!
