70 yamaha

Question

I have a 2004 70 yamaha that takes quite some time to warm-up and during this time it seems to smoke more than after it has been run awhile. It is oil injected, I use only the yamaha brand, and it runs fine, I just wondered about the smoke while it is warming up?

thanks,

BHS 91

i can't/don't remember if my 1990 90hp yam does that or not, but; i remember reading her some time back a guy had this problem and it was stated that the oil in the gas settles in the carbs after setting for a while and the engine is cold. so the engine is getting a little extra boost of oil on start up, thus the extra smoke.if it runs great , i wouldn't be to concerned.my $.02

I would think it to be a common problem with any two stroke to smoke a bit when cold. If this engine has an automatic choke it could be adjusted a little tight as well. I believe your engine has a thermostat just like one you would have in your car. I've heard thermostats on outboards don't work for long till they stick open then it will take longer for the engine to warm up. Replacing it should not be very expensive and not too hard to do.

Just my two cents...And I hope it helps...
