It occurs to me that the current dismal state of this franchise is the direct result of McComb's mishandling of this team. He refused to pay for a real head coach so we got an offensive line coach who is by far the lowest paid NFL coach. He wouldn't pay for an O-coordinator so Linehan left and we replaced him with anohter O-line coach and didn't even hire him a replacement.

ESPN.com today has a story that Wolf hired an FBI guy to be the security guy for the organzition now and he indicates that after meeting Commissioner Tagliabue it was made quite clear to him that he bought a team that was essentially bled out of money and resources and that he needs to rebuild this organization. I think the team's play reflects upon this.

Man I hope this guy is serious about having a winning operation here. He bought a house of cards here and its falling down now...

How long ago did this McComb's take over? Was he the guy that hired Jerry Burns. If he wasn't, it goes at least that far back. That was when I gave up on the Vike's and their worthless coaches. Jerry Burns was even worse than Tice I think.

Red McCombs bought the Vikings in 1998, after Tom Clancy's bid fell through for severe lack of funds. Jerry Burns was hired in 1985 after Bud Grant's second retirement--Bud returned for one year after the Les Steckel disaster, which we must never speak of again. Burns retired in 1992, so McCombs had nothing to do with Jerry Burns.

McCombs is to blame for much of the Vikings' current woes, as has been noted here before. Mike Tice was hired and kept on because he was cheap, not because of his coaching skills, or lack thereof. McCombs refused to spend money on scouts, or player amenities, and generally adopted a hands-off attitude towards the team, so long as he made money on it.

In McCombs world he is the smartest person ever. He made a complete fortune of the Vikings and didn't care if it hit rock bottom.

He had every positon messed up on purpose, so he didn't have to spend any money.

Now Zygi has to try and rebuild the team from all the trash McCombs left. Luckily there is still talent there, but there are 3 things Zygi needs to improve.

Get coaching that knows what is going on. Tice does not, a coach should not need multiple people working just to help him do his job.

The running back situation is horrible right now. Get rid of the running backs you dont need and keep your main running back and his backup.

And fix Culpepper, and if he cant be fixed see if you still have your reciept.

It is not the Offensive lines fault, it takes 1.5-2 seconds atleast for the defensive line to get to a quarter back. And most the time he has alot more than just 2 seconds. That is more than enough time to take a quick 3 step drop and pass. And o by the way I will almost put a bet down that in the average time Culpepper has had atleast 2 of the Vikes recievers are open enough to catch the ball and not be in danger of an interception. Stop throwing to the running back, there are certain instances when that screen play works, dont use it 20 times a game. I dont mind that he uses the tight end, but dont use him on 3rd down well short of the first down.

Here is a huge hint (Hopefully Dante is reading this )

Throw the ball or let someone else throw.

We still have the team to win every game if we want, suprisingly. And it really is all on Dantes shoulders and very small hands.

And if he cant handle the pressure there are 2 other quarter backs ready to play.

I take that back about Tice being smarter than Burns after I heard what Tice said about the only good thing about this week is we get to play the Packers next week. Talk about getting your opponent fired up for the game.

Musky, I agree to some extent but if you take it in the whole context it is much different. He did make that statement and then they went to commercial. They continued the discussion when they came back and it was found to be only about having a rivalry game to get excited about, not knocking the Pack.
