My best bet is that in the Northern parts of the state there'll be enough ice to be on the hard stuff, but not wuite yet here in the Metro... although the fingers are crossed that we have enough here by then. cool.gif

If there's ice up there, I'll be hitting a favorite Crappie spot up North... and posting pics with huge smiles all around! grin.gif

Captain-

I don't like year to year facts. They are never consistent. grin.gif With that said, 2 years ago, we were snowmobiling on Upper Red Lake with 7-8 inches of ice and lots of snow on Thanksgiving Day!

Yep B.R.K.

I had to double check my calendar.

I jotted down-

URL 8" ice

Snowmobiled out 1 1/2 Miles from Roger's

1 crappie

6 walleyes

Missed a bunch of fish

Less than 12 visible fish houses on the lake

We had parked in the parking lot at Roger's Campground, right next to the fish cleaning shack with the snowmobile trailer. Unloaded right in the parking lot and snowmobiled out past the only outhouse placed on the lake.

Crazy, eh? You just never know!

If you are thinking metro...........Coon Lake, west of Forest Lake is the first to freeze. The channel between the lakes freezes up real fast. There is one hole, some pike and panfish. Not going to get a trophy, but you'll see yer flag go up a few times...................

We have been going up to the Battle Lake area over Thanksgiving the last 3 years. Here is what we did on the Friday after Thanksgiving:

3 years ago - ice fished small lakes and close to shore on Battle lake

2 years ago - same as 3 years ago but slightly more ice.

Last year - bar hopped all day - no ice.

Every year was a lot of fun so even if there isn't ice, still go.

Year before that I walked onto Zippel bay the 19 of november for pike fishing, then onto 4mile bay on the 26th for the Walleye.
