Heater question

larryz

Question

I have a 8 X 8 permanent fish house that is only used days and evenings. It is not used for sleeping. I have been using a Buddy heater to heat it, using two of them on real cold days. These heaters are 9000 btu radiant heat on high setting. I would like to go to a more permanent wall heater. I have been looking at a blue flame type heater at Menards that is rated at 10,000 btu. It is being marketed for ice houses and comes with hose etc. Will this be big enough to heat my shack or do I need to go bigger? Is 10,000 btu in a blue flame much better than 9,000 btu radiant?

My shack is insulated with 1 1/2 in. foam. Thanks!

That should be plenty of BTU's for that size house, but I don't think that brand of heater's is vented outside is it?? I always hedge to the safe side, keep a window cracked or have several ventilation holes in the house because that brand of heater leaves the CO it creates in your house.

I'm sure you're going to get a bunch of responses on both sides of this debate, it happens every year on here.

I have that size house and that size heater. Keeps me toasty warm on the coldest of days so yes, that's plenty big.

I'd put a fan or 2 in there however. It's not radiant heat so it heats the air and not objects. A fan will keep the air moving. The floor will be as warm as the ceiling. If you don't use a fan your feet will be cold and your head will be hot.
