Eastwind
A group of us are heading up to Morson this coming weekend. How has the fishing been for Walleyes and Crappies? Has anyone been having luck trolling for Muskies? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks
Shorelunch
EW, We had pretty good fishing this weekend. The biggest was 24", alhtough I was hoping for a little bigger fall eyes - no complaints though. For us, there were a few at the traditional fall spots. Some were still on the reefs and many were off the deeper points and rock/weed bays. Depth varied from 9 to around 25'. With this cooler weather (40 degrees for a high here on Wednesday) pushing through, they should start moving to the traditional spots - I'm told usually around the 10th of October. It looks like a decent weekend weather wise though. We started shallow and worked deeper using a jig and minnow. We didn't get a chance to get up there, but I heard the crappies were starting to go around Thompson Creek and to a lesser extent, Hay Island. marknamy
We also caught a few eyes in the traditional fall areas. Biggest was a 20". Enough 12's and 13's to keep the minnow guys in business. Went to Smokehouse on Sunday morning and did just OK. Brought home six nice slabs after about an hour and a half of fishing. Three guys in our group tried trolling for muskies on Sat and Sunday with no luck. Headed back up on Friday but unsure if I'll make it on the lake. Have to get some projects done. Eastwind
Thanks for the reports guys. I am hoping that the cool down this week will drop the water temp enough to get the fish in to the Fall patterns. But if we are on the water and we get fish in any way, who's to complain. Did either of you get a water temp reading last weekend? I'm hoping to try trolling for Muskie for the first time and it would be nice if they were in the usual Fall locations. Of course, it'll still beat raking leaves.
marknamy
Surface temp when I pulled my boat on Sunday was 59 degrees. May have crept up a little as it was 75 and sunny when we left.
Shorelunch
It was around 60 on Sunday, but with the weather we're having it's gonna be in the mid-50's soon.
dmoore
Shorelunch:Where are you located in Morson. We have a mobile home at Mylie's. Would like to meet you sometime. Will be up there from 10-7 until 10-23. Ch. 14, "Baitmaker".
Shorelunch
My Father-In-Law has a cabin on the south side point on Hansen Bay and my family has a cabin on Taylor Bay. Not too bad of a deal. My F-I-L, Louie, goes to coffee about every morning at Mylies. I'm hoping to come up over the 15th for some fall walleye hunting depnding on the weather. Drew
I really enjoy reading your posts on the Morson area. It has been 9 years since I have been the area. My wife and I got a house boat from Gills Marina and spent a week around the Miles bay area. What a great area with some great fishing opportunties. Can anybody point me in the direction of a realitor, phone numbers, etc. where I could look for a place to purchase around that area.
dmoore
I believe I met Louie. My very good friend Jack Eastman has a cottage in the same area. Just heard from our place. Our dock was ripped apart and our floater broke off our crib, neighbors boat had a hole punched in it and Mylie's had some of their floating docks damaged. 40 mph east winds with gusts up to 60 mph. It has been a crazy year. Looks like more work than fishing. Supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow. Now we won't head up until Friday.
Shorelunch
Sorry to hear about that. I'm curious how Louie's dock made out too. I've heard Jacks's name before too. It seems there's something new every year - tornadoes, snow in July, different types of bug swarms, etc. - I guess that what makes it LOW.Drew, I would do a "lake of the woods realty" or "lake of the woods property" or Rainy River or Nestor Falls realty type of Google search. I would also get a hold of a Lake of the Woods magazine (Canadian property owners/informational magazine).
dnp
Hey Shorelunch, I have a cabin on the point west of Hanson bay and can see Louie's dock from my place. The winds today were the strongestI have ever seen up here, up to 50 mph. At 5:00 PM today Louie's dock was still attached but it looked like a roller coaster track in the waves. I will try to get a better look tommorow when I return from Baudette. Mylie's had a lot of damage to their floating docks. Tough day up here, power was out all day but is now on. Shorelunch
Well I'm glad his dock isn't part of the shoreline by Pork Point or something . . . I hope every else faired well or has easy fixes.
dnp
The weather this weekend looks pretty good. Talked to Justin at Mylie's and they are in pretty good shape. The fishing should improve with the stable weather.
Eastwind
Just got back from Mylie's in Morson. Their docks took a beating but they had plenty of dock space for everyone by Saturday morning and we had power to recharge batteries by that evening. The walleye fishing was good with good average size, 16" to 17" and chunky. We found fish in the typical Fall spots. Crappies were a no go in the Elbow and slow up in Miles Bay but we did well at Hay Island. The weather was just great for a Fall trip.

benelli_dude2002
Was out in sabaskong bay with my wheeler and I think a sled would have been better cause there was plenty of snow for a sled and just a bit much for a wheeler. Also found a few slush holes and iced up the wheeler pretty good. There was quite a few sled tracks so looks like a few people have been out and about. Be safe!
