we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted September 29, 2005 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted September 29, 2005 When in weeds I look for flickering and color changes which usually indicate fish. Generally the weeds appear yellow and when panfish come in it flickers to orange to red as the signal gets stronger.
BDR
Also you can play gith the gain a little and try to find a spot that give a few spaces in the weeds. You can spot the fish moving verticle in the column quite easily.
augernaut
I don't have an LX-3, I fish with an FL-18 - but my biggest tip would be to keep the gain as low as you possibly can to still detect your jig. Not sure how the LX-3 is, but oftentimes in shallow water weeds even if you turn the FL-18 all the way to 0 gain, it is still too much power for the vexilars ducer in shallow water, so Vex needs a Low Power mode that cuts the gain by an additional 60% - this makes it possible to see your jig and fish but cuts the weeds right out - it works very, very well. Not sure if the LX-3 has some similar option??
Surface Tension
If your using a FL18 switching to LP mode is what you'll need to do. Of coarse situations will very but in a lot of cases the LX3 you'll be able to turn the gain down far enough to where you won't mark the weeds but still mark your jig and fish coming through. Or as what was said earlier you can turn the gain down till weeds show as yellow, your jig and fish will show as orange or red.
