Early Goose Pics

Recommended Posts

Every since Jerkperchsd left we havn't had enough pictures of our little H2O friends. Don't be shy, let's see um!

Here is our hunt today. Two bands! The 3 of us ended up with 14 (one short of a limit). The honks decoyed like a dream. We had a blast.

Can't wait for the duck opener!

We had some success last weekend up in crosby. We saw 7 geese and took 4, with one somehow magically getting away from us. We were hunting over water and the one we lost landed across the lake and when we took the boat out to find it, it was nowhere to be found! We did see lots and i mean lots of woodies though. Each morning at least 20-30 would give us nice little fly-bys. I can't wait for opening duck. Its gonna be a great time.

Can't get my pictures of the geese we took to load up on here. Is it %7Boption%7Dlink%7Boption%7D?

Rost, NICE Pics and congrats on the bands!!!!!

Here in southern Minnesota there have been plenty of geese moving but getting them away from the refuge is hard work. I've watched 45 geese die this year and only 1 band. I would post some pics if I could but don't know how confused.gif

Only a few days left for the early goose season and then its time to start working on the ducks wink.gif!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Steel sucks" yes those are my 1st two words. I was out goose hunting the last day of the early season. I could not not been in a better place for hunting I was like 30 feet outside of city limtes. Also like 500 yards away there are 4 very big ponds with about 500 geese. They fly very low very where I was hunting. I had to be carful were I was shooting because there was houses close by but far enough away so I can hunt. There was about a flock of a dozen geese fly right over. I brought up on 1 goose shot once saw it stop flapping its wings and shot again SAW FEATHERE FLY OFF. So I knew I hit the darn goose. I could not shoot a 3rd time because I would be shooting over the houses close by. I was using 3 1/2in F shot. I could not beleave I did not bring that goose down. I was in shock n aw. I just could not beleave it. I shot that goose 2 times and not bring the goose down. so I am waiting intell the duck opener to hunt goose again. I know steel is not as good as lead but my gosh with a goose within 40 yeards I shot 2 times. I could not bring it down with 31/2in F shot. Thats my storie for goose huntin in the early season. My 2 cents good luck and BE SAFE!!!

first mistake is useing f shot it is garbage.have you ever patterned it? if not i bet you would be suprised at the pattern you get.you should try bbb or even bb.i am sure it would have a better patteren.we shot 35 geese last weekend and i was useing #1's out of the 10 ga. and never had a cripple all came down dead.but this was in the decoys and they where low and only 25 yard shots or so. but by all means pattern that gun with the f's and i bet you will be done buying them

I have to agree with Ortonville(I'm also OHS, class of 67) F shot was someone's idea of a load for skybusting. For pass shooting, I use BBB and over decoys I like BB. And shotguns are very picky about what loads they want to pattern well. Before you hunt with it, pattern it. One point to add, many shotguns do not shoot where you point them. I have one that shoots consistantly high. It takes some getting used to when I hunt geese with it.

I use #2's all early season and most of the regular season, if you're getting birds within 35yds thats all you need, if you're not droppin geese its your shooting, cause they do the job well.

Awesome pics Flick! Yes, there is a reason they don't make F shot anymore. Most people don't realize that smaller bb's penetrate better than larger. I like BBB or BB for geese. I have also heard that a lot of guys like 1 or 2 shot.
