Stick and Pick opener

My 21st season of hunting whitetails opens tomorrow. You would think that a guy could get a good nights rest leading up to the opener after that many years, but Im far from that. I dream of big whitetails quartering away at about 20 yards. My wife thinks that I should see a specialist to deal with my "issues" She cant quite figure out why I have to start scouting for deer in March, or why I have camo clothing in plastic bag full of leaves in the back yard. She thinks shooting my bow at block in the back yard from on top of my garage might scare the neighbors. I have explained to her how we will be able to spend a night out together in mid november between the rifle season ending and the muzzle loading opener, and she seemed troubled by that. I plan on making that night very special, maybe picking up a burger for a ride out the big enclosed stand to see whats moving. Im going to suprise her with her very, own set of binoculars that night. I made the sacrifice of buying a new pair this year, so she could use my old ones. I really, really think that she is going to enjoy that night!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow. Tell the wives you'll see towards the end of december/first part of January, and that your just doing it to provide food for your family.

Hey Grip, don't forget to get her a good pair of boots and to take along a bucket and some TP on your big night out. I made that mistake when I was a youngen' and we were dating. Nature called and she had no place to relieve herself so she just hung it over the side and let her go.

Needless to say that stand was ruined for the season. No self respecting buck would come within 300 yards of the human scent she left.

I was so upset we broke up shortly after the season as I figured if she can't hold her water what good was she. I think about her every now and then, I guess she has joined PETA and lives in a Redwood out in California.

That's an awesome post!!! So true!!!

It's funny how wives become accustomed/accepting to this behavior as more years roll on. Don't get me wrong...they always questioned the behavior. It just seems like (in my case anyways) they accept it more and more each year. I think they see how much joy it brings us.....that....and they know they can't change it. The important thing is to treat the wife as nice as possible as much as you can.

Good luck to everyone....have fun and be safe!

It's funny thinking about hunting and my wife. She always wants to go hunting but never got the time to do it with me. This year is going to be her first year going hunting with me. It's nice to have someone special to go hunting with you. I hope she gets something on her first year. Yea, she always wonder why we get so excited and serious when hunting season comes around maybe after this year she'll know why.

Treat your wife with respect and you'll get it back. That goes the same with all hunters. So be safe and have a great hunting season, good luck to every hunters out there.

grin.gif ...LOL... I'll have to show this one to the girl friend... wink.gif An old friend of mine told me the only time his wife shoots a deer is when its her, "special time of the month" ... over the past 38 years shes only killed when she was on her (.) Think about that for a while, I've been trying to figure out how to put PMS and PostPMS in a bottle confused.gif...

After disappearing for 10 days out on the bighorn mountains last year and almost every other weekend spent in the woods I got some suggestions on what 'tree might not stand' this fall if I didn't mellow a little. Asking if her world famous lasagne would still be on the menu got me a pretty good twist on the nip. OUCH!

Then this summer she decided her little lapdog needed a companion so she basically set up me getting my new pup (which will obviously need extensive bird exposure), during Christmas after a couple eggnog's she told my dad that we needed to spend a couple weekends hunting together and chasing some late season eyes, volunteered me to show her brother how to process his own deer, etc. Pretty soon the weekend here and there added up until I should be busy till June.

Gods I must be charming! I'm pretty too, but between you and me I'm guessing it must be the attention to details. Told her I loved her so much I was going to let her start using my old bow. She actually kind of likes the idea. From Vegan to deer slayer!? Heck now I'm thinking that even my winders must smell 'petite, like rose petals'. tongue.gif

I've also been told I've got an impressive imagination, happily delusional and a powerful case of selective hearing too. grin.gif

Could be a long winter, hopefully the sap is running by spring. crazy.gif
