Frozen smelt or ciscos this time of year???

Any leads on where to find frozen smelt, ciscos or herring this time of year - looking for the size around 4 to 6 inches or so....Thanks!!

If you cannor find any I do have smelt left from this spring. Contact me at cheffi1(at)charter(dot)net. My smelt are in the 6-8" range. Email me and we can work it out, that is if there is not a easier way to work it out in your local.

Just curious, do you use them out on the big lake?

I've toyed with the idea of saving some for winter use under a bobber, or with a big jig for musky and big pike in the fall.

I suppose you can get them quite readily in the spring and freeze them for whenever, eh?

Try some of the Asian grocery stores, they usually have a wide selection of fish products, including smelt.

I've seen fresh smelt at Cub. Don't know if they have frozen.

You might want to check Vado's Bait in Spring Lake Park.

I know they have those baits during the winter months, they may still have some in their freezers.

I usually go to Oriental groceries on University Ave in St. Paul. Their smelts are on the smaller side, 4-5 inches. Sometimes I also grab a box of squids ( Calamari ).

I'm with Joe's Kid. I've picked up frozen smelt at the Cub near Joe's Sporting Goods off Rice St. in St. Paul.

I haven't been there since August, but Vado's did have ciscos & smelt then.

What's the advantage of using smelt or ciscos vs. sucker minnows? Is it because you can get them in the 6-8" size?

Do pike/muskie prefer dead bait? I like to tip up fish a lot in the winter, but I usually use suckers.
