I'm pretty sure he said they got into 2 woodcock, never said anything about shooting 2 woodcock.

Just to clarify, I know that the woodcock season isn't open yet. When I said 'got into 9 grouse and 2 woodcock' I was talking about bird contacts not shooting.

Northwest of Aitken by Emily..1 big brood kicked up other than that just singles, heard, not seen..no WC..but wasn't really looking. Still pretty green and thick, even the ferns haven't died back yet.

Went out before the heat on Sunday Morning.

On the first trail I saw one grouse and 9 woodcock. One grouse in the bag.

On the second trail, 2 grouse and 3 woodcock. Knocked down another grouse.

When I got back to the truck, someone had helped themseves to my gun case and the bird left behind. That ruined a good day. I was more upset about the theft of the bird than the $35.00 case.

It would have been interesting to run into a CO with my gun only wrapped in a fleece jacket on the way out.

Mudflap...sorry to hear about your experience. Who steals somone elses bird? What a low life. Hopefully they get a bone lodged in their throat while enjoying your bird. I say the next time you hunt the area you lace a bait bird up with liquid Ex-Lax. They can reflect on their character as they sit on the toilet.

We were hunting in SW MN for Roosters and my buddy layed three birds on top of his Burb. to cool down, we went into the motel to change and get cleaned up, came out to go grab some supper and they were gone!

I hope the person poked their eye out with a tail feather!

Hit the woods for 2 hours last night, had 7 flushes and shot once. One dead bird. Dogs worked great. It was still a little warm. 5 of the 7 birds were along a creek bottom on the shaded side, mixed in some young aspen.

ARE YOU SURE THAT YOUR BUDDY DIDN'T THINK HE LAYED 3 BIRDS UP THERE BUT IN ALL REALITY THERE WERE IN THE BURB THE WHOLE TIME AND HE DISCOVERED THEM 1 YR LATER WHEN THEY STARTED TO FERMENT IN THE HOT SUMMER SUN............? THEN HE WAS LIKE, "OH YA THATS RIGHT LAST YEAR I DID HUNT WITH THOSE GUYS BEFORE I WAS CHAINED TO THIS GIRL. NOW I AM JUST GOING TO STAY HOME. I WONDER IF THEY'LL CARE IF I DON'T SEND IN MY P. Yeah thats him! So what if you spent three years trying to get a permit, I mean he has a girlfriend now. The goat and I agreed to share custody of his Wirehair, we aren't going through any formal adoption process. We are just going to take him and see how long it takes to realize he is gone!

Got out this morning, between the rain. Flushed 18 grouse and one woodcock, managed to put 2 of the grouse and the woodcock in the bag, what a great morning, can't wait for tomarrow.

at least some of us are doing ok. I have been hunting my spots that I do very well at. tryed my honey hole at sunrise friday, not one bird. went to my next top spot, and again nothing. did miss two birds this weekend at other spots, but my area seems to be down. I did good last year here. will have to move to other areas.

didn't get out this weekend due to rain, and kids and myself being sick. Hopefully the weather and healthe will be good next Sunday to venture North.

Got back sat. night from the Hackensack area. Flushed 16, shot two, got soaking wet. My boy's first real hunt since he got his certificate. Didn't realize how much fun he is to hunt with...those of you with kids understand my joy. Little shiester is getting pretty fast at pulling up the gun. Found the majority of the birds on trails with pines very close or in them. Crops were full of those crab apple looking "fruits". Have a great week all! The Dog

Had a game feed on sunday so I did'nt get out. But I got out today The first cover I moved 7 grouse and 6 woodcock, with one grouse and 2 woodcock comeing home with me(45min.) The second cover had 2 more woodcock flushes and bringing me to my limit, two more grouse up and one down.(30min.) total time= 1hr15min. total flushes 9grouse/8woodcock.

Whats for supper? 2 Kings and 3 doodles ;

Went bear hunting last weekend so I didn't hunt grouse but my son came along and did get a limit Saturday. He said he had about a 33% success rate on the birds he jumped. By the way no bear yet.
