great macros Tom!...fantastic clarity for sure!...that spider looks like it's ready to chomp on ya.......lol!...the red dragonfly looks to be a "cherry-faced meadowhawk",great capture!...(tough to tell the difference on the "red" meadowhawks...the "cherry-faced"..."saffron winged"...the "ruby"..the "white faced".all look close to the same)...nice photo of the grasshopper to!...love those close-up macro pics grin.gif...jonny

It is an Argiope spider. We grew up calling them garden spiders, or writing spiders, but that was back when we were kids and all yellow and black spiders were called that no matter what they were. This ID I'm sure of because I spent about an hour finding it on line and looking at a lot of photos. They're pretty common from what I understand.

Tom,

That grasshopper shot is my favorite of the bunch. Looking at them this close realy makes one think twice before just stepping on one..... well maybe not. They do look like something from a differnt planet at that size.
