spinner tuning

I heard on a Jimmy Houston show if your spinner twirls in circles while retrieving there is a blade problem. I think he said the blade might be bent. I've never heard of this. Could someone expand on this. Would you just replace the blade? On tandems would you replace both? Does it occur with one style of blade or could the twirling happen with all style blades? I've noticed on some spinners that it runs on its side a bit instead of being vertical. Does this mean the blade is bent?

I have noticed that spinnerbaits run on their sides because the wire is not in-line with the hook. It is a simple fix. Just line up the arm of the lure so it is in-line with the hook. I do not have any suggestions as to the blades making it not run true.

Hey Bucketmouth - I saw the same show and am trying to remember what he said about vibration. I believe it was on a single blade spinnerbait it would be a Colorado blade putting out the most, I can't remember what he said about double bladed spinnerbaits but I'm sure two Colorados did not put out the most vibration. Do you remember?

I did hear the part about the blade possibly being defective if your bait rolls or runs tilted. I'd worry about the wire frame first as mentioned and then look into the blade(s) if that doesn't work.

Cooter, I believe he said on a single blade they run deep, the bigger the blade the more vibration. The other vibration bit he talked about I think was the oklahoma blade. It is shaped like a turtle back. I think he said these give off more vibration. I have one and you can really feel it upon retrieve.

if i change any blades it is usually just the top one. i may step up or down a size. if you spinnerbait is in line and you still have some trouble with it running tilted, try slowing your retreive speed down a little.
