What brand of sabot slug do you shoot?

I've been shooting Lightfield cammander (3") for some years now. The lightfield hybred (2 3/4") are great too. They are by far one of the most accurate I've used so far, the knock down power is great. I've also tried Remington's premier copper solid but they weren't accurate shooting from my shotgun. I just want to know what types of sabot slugs you have tired and what you've experience. Maybe this year I might change to a differant brand if there's one that will change my mind.

I shoot Winchester Super-X 3" sabots in my 870. I love them. I can accurately shoot groups out to 100 yrds if needed with my scope sighted at 75. Both deer I have shot w/gun, at approx. 50 and 70 yrds, have dropped immediately.

I second the Winchester Super X 3 inchers. Very accurate in my slug gun. 2 inch groups at 100 yards consistently. Make sure you shoot a few different manufacturers slugs. There is a big difference in performance and it can vary by gun.

I have an Ithaca Deerslayer II that I use Federal 3" Sabots. Twice in front of witnesses I've fired one hole groups at 75 yards. They hold good groups out to 125 yards. I have no business taking a shot past that distance. I know my own limitations. A friend who cronographed several slug brands said Federal were the most consistant.

The only slug to shoot from your gun is the one that is the best. When I still slug hunted,I always bought the new ones that came out and went to the range to see if they shot better out of my gun,all guns will shoot different with different slugs,so you must go to the range and test to find the best slug for your gun.

I always used the Remington Copper Solids because they patterned so well with my gun.

However, i did have a bad experience a few years ago before they changed the head design of the slug. It used to have 4 separate wings, deeply incised almost halfway down the slug. Now they have several angled "wings" that make up part of the hollow point, and only go down the slug head about an 1/8".

I think with the old design, brush was a big problem. While I don't promote bouncing slugs through brush at deer, I had an unseen twig smaller than half a pencil cause my slug to defy laws of motion.

Deer was 30 yards away quartering away, but still. Twig was 20 yards away. Somehow, the slug that I presume was heading at least in the general direction of the deer's front shoulder, ends up kicking up dirt about 10 feet in front of the doe.

About all I can figure is that one of the wings on the slug "blew-up" after hitting the tiny twig, causing it to tumble or completely redirect. I never got another shot, and it took me a good 1/2 hour to figure out just what had happened.

I tend to look at the head design of these new sabot slugs quite a bit more closely now.

I'm going to try several new varieties in my gun this fall.

I happen to shoot Remington Copper Solid Sabots and they do well for me.

I most of all though, would echo that comment that what others shoot in their guns isn't so important as testing to find a good shooting slug in your gun.

My other question is, why are so many of you shooting the 3" slugs? I've found (and most every test I've seen also confirmed) that the 2 3/4" are more accurate. Besides, a 2 3/4" sabot slug has more than enough knock down power for any whitetail I've ever seen. I don't understand why your are all shooting 3".
