Luck e 1
I feel like a dork asking this, but do you guys do anything to help stabilize your canoe? I fish out of a canoe in smaller rivers a lot, and this means trying to cast and set hooks in a wobbly canoe. Any suggestions?
0 Marmot
Put weight in the bottom of the boat such as a rock or cooler of water. You will probably need to figure out the right spot to place the weight so get the proper balance.
0 minneman
what you need is canoe stabilizers, do a google search, or go to cabellas site. if your handy at all you could make something like these. they work very well!
0 MNice
I have a set from spring creek, great product, I use them for duck hunting in cold water.
0 Slyster
Or pop in one or two of those long 80lb tubes of sand! Weight that small and low does wonders in a conoe.
0 Blaze
luck e - I think this topic comes up every year. Last year I gave the 'canoe stabilizer' deal a shot, Red Green style. The rods/floats slide in & out and up & down - here's what she looked like at the end: It was a fun project and it helped a bit, but truth be told, the tube of sand probably would've been as effective if not more. Great conversation piece when people see you at the boat launch tho! If you want more info & pics, give me your email and I'll send it over. I think I had about $40 into it total - I couldn't spend the $150+ for 'real ones'! FYI - another mod that proved much more useful was a mount for my old trolling motor. It was a leftover 2x10 that I made 2 notches in - also serves as a back rest! Here's a peek:
