Metro boat dealers?

Crankin619

Question

Just wondering who has dealt with Rapid Sport Marine and what has been the experience? Both sides sales/service. Also how aboat the new CP in Rogers. I have heard some real dealer horrer stories. I want to make sure if I start to work with a dealer I am going to have a relationship after the sale.

I bought a new (2003) outboard from Rapid this year. They gave me a good deal on it. I estimate about 2000.00 less than any 2005 model.

It ran good for the frist few outings, then started to run poorly.

The first words out of the service persons mouth were "Its under warranty, bring it in."

I did. They fixed it.

I also checked them out with the Better Buisness Bureau.

BBB said they have only had one complaint about them in 3 years, and that one was resolved.

....and last time I stopped in Kent Herbek was sitting by the front door signing autographs.

I'll be buying my next boat or outboard there.

I bought a Lund Fisherman 1800 from Rapid last year, and the sales guy was OUTSTANDING, both before and after the sale. I hope to get a lot of years out of my new rig, but if and when- I'll go back there first!

On another note- Dan's Southside has been doing the routine maintenance on the motor since I bought it, and there's no complaints there. Thus far everything runs great, so I can't help on the 'fix' issues.

Over the last twelve years I've bought five boats from Rapid Sports and have always been treated well. Service department has met my needs also - usually don't need it...

If I get to number six, Rapid will be my first stop.

Now nobody get upset with this but..............

I was in the market for a fish and ski boat. I live in andover so Rapid was one of my first stops. I went in this spring and told the salesman what I was looking for. He said he didn't carry anything new like that. He was frank about that. (I took it as beeing short with me.) I asked about used, and his reply was "I think we have some outside, your free to look if you want." I went outside expecting him to follow, and he disapeared. WOW- not much of a salesman if you ask me. It was a crummy day out and all of the boats we covered, so I just left, never to return.

Now crystal pierz- I went in on a sunny mid-week late afternoon. The receptionist called up a salesman to take me to look at the ranger reatta. He was just a little pushy- ala, "This one won't last long", but not overly so.

I asked him about used, and he just said he had none. What impressed me is that when I brought up other manufatures that I was shopping he seemed to give me his honest opinion.

Like, "Skeeter makes a REAL good boat." He also was very helpful with features and seemed to know about the boat.

I left there satisfied.

Now, due to circumstances beyond my control- my new boat has turned into a used one, and also about 6 months down the line. But I don't think I would buy one from Rapid, and I would check back at Crystal Pierz.

Hope that helps-

I believe every dealer is going to have a few disgruntle customers and those folks that do have a gripe will feel more inclined to tell their experience then someone with a positive one. Saying that I don't see how a review on any open forum could be an accurate indication of a dealers customer service. Also we can't verify if said complaint is legit. Therefore its not fair for a business to get raked over the coals and it won't happen here on FM.

Ask opinions here on makes, models, options and prices then go shop around. Call the BBB if you want a history of a certain dealer or better yet go ease drop next to their customer service counter.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
