East Rush Rules
Heres the question for you guys!! With the GHG being out for awhile now so guys kind of know what there like, are they up to the standerds of the HC's or Bigfoots? I have 6 of them and man do i like the price and the look, but the paint on them is horrible!! Do you think there new Pro-Grade series is better then there lower end ones? I want to by another 6-12 to keep adding to my spread, but i dont know which one i choose. I love the look of the HC's but man there spendy for a 17 year old. Im leaning twords the Bigfoots because i have shot a lot of birds under them and there paint seems undestructible, but the realism of the others is amazing! Any input would be awsome, Korey
Farley
The only thing I like about the GHG is the "flocked" heads. They look very real, but what I would do if you buy the GHG is put some loktite on the nuts/bolts that hold the legs on. We were down in Kansas last fall and used both GHG and Bigfoots and the darn legs kept falling off of the GHG because the nuts would shake loose when they were in the trailer. So set up took and extra 10 minutes because we'd have to tighten almost every one. You could also put the legs on and damage the threads on the bolts so they dont come off, but then they will never come off. The heads didnt seem very secure either, not a problem when they are sitting in the field but when picking up, you couldnt carry a bunch of them by the head. We never had a problem with the Bigfoots. mwktrapper
I wouldn't bother with the GHG's. We've had problems with the paint chipping, legs breaking and things are too loose. We've then called GHG and their customer service (if you could even call it that) is the worst I've seen. As for the HC's - they are durable and one of the best looking decoys on the market, but will empty your pocket book quickly. Dave Smith decoys fit in this category also. They look like a goose!BigFoots are decent looking dekes at a decent price and will never fail you. These are probably the most durable fullbodies on the market.I would also check out the new Final Approach decoys. They look just like the GHG fullbodies but seem to be more durable. The legs and heads lock a lot harder. The guy at Gander Mt. threw one at the wall, jumped on it and even scraped at it and it didn't wear or tear at all. Great price too. Also, don't overlook the new Higdon decoys either, which now come flocked. They also have a stackable full body. These are basically a full body with the belly cut out. They stack for transportation, sit on a stake for good motion, come flocked, and are way more affordable than the full bodies. There's so many on the market. Good luck! Flipnripem
It does depend on how well you can take care of those GHG dekes. If you are only going to use a dozen and can handle them like glass, not let them rub on anything during transportation. I love them. I bought three dozen and took back two doz. of them. The flocking was beginning to wear off. I do own a dozen GHG shells with motion stakes and love them. They are easier to care for when loading and unloading. My money goes to the big foots. HEDHUNTER
go with the bigfoots, they take a beating & you can take them apart if room is a factor. flock the heads & they are great.
mwktrapper
If I ever go on a hunt where the decoys don't take a beating...well let's just say I haven't been that blessed over the years. The GHG's just won't cut it for me. There are many other decoys on the market, in the same price range, that look as good or better than the GHG's that will take that beating. Bushwacker
I actually have the GHG and love them. I had them all last year and shot a lot of geese over them. I took off all of my factory nuts and put lock nuts and lock washers on them all(both the top or the legs and the bottom). I haven't had a problem since. My paint has also held up very well. I was expecting much worse. The new pro-grade are awesome. I saw them outside at the Waterfowl weekend at Sportsman's Warehouse on Sunday and they look great. There was a slight breeze, at the most 5mph, and they move very well, up and down and back and forth. I am going to be adding at least a dozen of them to my spread this year. thaJman
Anyone know if there is a retail store that carries Higdon decoys?
bigdog
Gander in St Cloud is having Higdons on sale for $65/4-pack during their Aug 26/27th weekend waterfowl event.
NE angler
I have all 3 in the spread but mainly BF and have the GHG and the HC close to the ground blinds to get them close. HC also has these caller decoys that are awesome, they have their neck stretched out with bill open - they work awesome. A buddy of mine has 90 Dave Smiths - they look incredible but can't get myself to pay that much.
