boat lighting for night fishing

I am interested in doing more night fishing, but have questions about lighting in my boat. What is the best way to light your boat at night so you can actualy see what is going on? Thanks

I use a regular clamp on desk lamp with a 12 volt RV bulb in the socket, wire the thing to a 12 volt battery and your set! We also use a piece of conduit with a reflector from a cheepie clamp on light and the same rv bulb, make the conduit about 5 ft tall, lights the whole inside up and attracts tons of bugs in bug season.. If I recall, a fellow who responded to a similar thread last year said he used rope lights (like the ones used under kitchen cabinets and in china hutches to backlight things) and strung them just inside the top lip around the hull of his boat.

I use rope lighting that you can hook up to your battery. They are 6 feet long with 5 foot power cord, output 33 watts and bulb life 25000 hrs. Like 15.00. Ordered them from cabelas.

If you buy rope lights get yellow ones,less bugs.I have them,they work great.

Has anyone tried the Blacke Beam from Cabela's which uses uses dual-tube ultraviolet black lights or white florescent tubes??

It's supposed to make it easy to see your line in the water without attracting bugs.

I took a cheap 12 volt socket and an old lamp cord attached the socket to one end and gator clips to the other. lights up very nice on the 4' light pole, but it is a bug magnet!

Amber clearance markers are what I use.

I also have amber lenses on my boats interior lights and for retying I use a miner style head light

The amber lights are good, but for overall lighting just get a miners type headlamp. The light always goes where you need it and it's always handy!

like paul i use the clamp on type lights, but i clamp them to a section of adjustable tent pole that i cut the bottom section of to be flush with the top of the boat. then the top section of pole, with light bolted on, can be stored, and when inseted into the lower half of the pole becomes adjustable. i attached the lower half of the pole to the boat by drilling a couple small holes on either side of the pole and secured with plastic ties

Hey Mrmillelacs!
My light pole idea came straight off millelacs about 12 or 13 years ago, I never saw them up here before then. (Funny, I used to have time to go to millelacs a few times each season, not much anymore tho.) It works good, My eyes are getting worse with age it seems and I need all the light I can get to see stuff, like this fine superline...Paul
