TSCTSC
What are the differences in my boat performance? Will the 17 or 19 pitch help me achieve better trolling speed control?
0 Valv
17 pitch will slow down your speed, so you will have more control, and you will be able to give or take throttle to achieve desired speed. You will gain in quick take off, but low top speed. I have to do same, my big boat won't go less than 2.0mph at idle but 41mph full throttle
0 Hemlock
I just switched mine from a 19 to a 17. I gained a heck of a lot out of the hole, and lost 2 mph on the top end. Good decision for me, as I often have big loads of people to get out to an island. Sucks to have someone have to go way up to the bow to get the boat planed out. Not with a 17. If my boat was always light, I would have stuck with the 19, and enjoyed 42 mph top end vs. 40.
0 tashit
I was just wondering the same thing. My dad is looking for a new prop for his boat and didn't know what pitch to get. He uses the boat for skiing too so the hole shot is important. It sounds like he shouldn't go any higher than a 17, possibly a 15? He has an '86 90 hp Merc. 0 Northlander
A 13 by 17 or one in that ballpark should be good on that 90 Merc. If you want some real professional advise call Jay Soderbloom and he can suggest some things to ya. I just picked up my redesigned 13 3/4 by 17 from Jay. He board 3 exhaust holes in it cupped it and put a nice lip on the blades. Im hoping to try it out tomorrow. Im real fired up to see what she will do. We are guessing my already good hole shot will be much better and top end should be about the same if not better. Jay knows the exacts on why, Im just taking his word on it. He hasnt done me wrong on a prop yet so we will see. He is also a site sponsor so check him out. He also has some great prices on all sorts of goodies. www.soderbloom.com
0 TSCTSC
Actually, I need a 13 x 19 K rebuilt. Can he do something to it to make it better for me too?
0 Valv
The 17 will give you more speed control. But if you are sure you need a 19....I guess no sense having this thread.
0 Northlander
Yes, just call Jay and he will give you some options. He will ask you a bunch of questions so have all your numbers from prop ready. He will need to know what boat your running, motor and what your hole shot, top end and RPM's are. Good luck. When I get my new prop out Ill let ya know how it went. Ill be in Canada for a week so it will be a bit.
