Trailer Tires???

Does anyone have any info or insight into the purchasing of new trailer tires? I know a little about the top of the line tires, but would like to know what other brands people prefer, where you got them, or places that can do it for you. I also would like to save a few bucks, or find the most economical way to get this finished, hopefully before mid-April....thanks for any info or insight that you may provide!!!

What size are you looking for?

In general, tires designed for trailers are built tougher and with more material so that they can withstand heat, overload, sway and mistreatment due to improper inflation. They come with the ST (special trailer) designation.

Carlisle and Marathon are a couple of the most recognized brands and are available at places like Fleet Farm.

I have two new, never used 4.80 x 12 boat trailer tires mounted on four-hole white rims. I'm asking $50. [email protected] in St. Cloud.

I use Trailer house tires on my trailer. They've been on there for years and I haven't had any problem. I think you can pick them up pretty cheap from a mobile home moving company.

Just one angler's experience, but I'll never, EVER, have Carlisle tires on my trailer again. I do trailer a lot of miles in the course of a year, but in the past 2 years I've had 3 different Carlisle trailer tires with tread separation. Treads just up and fly the hell off, and it's not fun at 70 mph. Last one was on Hwy 10 outside St. Cloud on a Sunday afternoon, and I the slung tread wrapped around the axle. So there I sat with a pair of cutters and a pry bar unwrapping the tread while cars whizzed by at 75 mph 3 feet away. NOT fun. Tires on there were rated for the trailer weight too - so not like I had inadequate tires. Have talked to other Carlisle owners who've had the same problem. Check some of the bass boat owner's boards and you'll find some similar stories.

Go with Marathon, or similar high quality brand.

as I said, some may do just fine with Carlisles, but I'll never put one on again.

I have Carlisle tires on my utility trailer that hauls both my ATV's regularly and had hauled several loads for distances over 2500 pounds. My boat trailer also has Carlisle tires on it and must have 20,000 miles on them now.. never had any problems with the tires, and the tread life is great.

The other forum user that has had problems with them(forgot name).. have you had any problems with bearings, or possibly tire alignment(bent axle, hub not perfect) that could be causing heat build up? Over-inflating maybe? There is usually a reason for tires giving out prematurely... Maybe your close to the *max load* and traveling at speeds that exceed what the tires were rated for.. thus causing too much heat... I dont drive 55 myself.. I keep up with the traffic(and then some at times).

I have had the same problem with those tires on my boat trailor. I was lucky, I pulled over into a gas station befor they blew! I am real picky about my air preasure. I had less than 10,000 miles on those tires. Peace

guys--

the tires i need are for a 2 axle bass boat trailer...i think they need either 14 or 15 inch tires...not really sure...but where should i go to get them fleet farm, northern tool and equipment, or where???
