Scope For Rifle

Recommended Posts

I am looking to put a scope on my Deer rifle.. Has a tasco on it now and I get the half dark moon when looking through it.. scope is about 10 yrs old and was a cheap one then... Not looking to spend a fortune and looking for some good names in the 100-150 ranges to narrow my search.

Been looking at

BSA

Nikon

among other...

Looking for a 2-10 or 3-9 and no bigger than 42mm lens ...

Slick looks are a plus hate all the extra knobs and stuff on some models ...

Going on a 30.06 Savage !!!

I use a simmons aetec 2-10x44 on my rifle and so does my wife. I think it is a great scope. They are waterproof fogproof and shockproof and really clear with a good eye relief. I got both of mine on hsolist for around $120.

I really love Nikon glass. I've never used a BSA - but they seem to be too cheap to be any good.

Wal-Mart in Vadnais Heights had a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 on clearance for $150 last week....which is an excellent deal on a good scope.

I'm putting a Burris Fullfied II on my Savage .30-06 soon.....I've heard good things about Burris, their glass was pretty bright, and I got a pretty good deal on it. You can get a Burris around $150-$175 on hsolist......the Fullfield II is supposedly comparable to the Nikon Monarch.....which is a truly awesome scope. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford another Monarch....so I'm trying out the Burris.

Nikon makes good scopes, I have one and a set of Nikon Binocs that are good. The Leupolds are also excellent value. The Vari X-II on my deer gun has shown the way to many a deer...

There is a pretty good thread here in the hunting thread on "scopes" and it has a good discussion on powers and objective lens sizes too. You probably don't need everything you think you do...

Burris makes a good scope for the money. Would definately recommend checking it out. Thought it was comparable or better than a number of higher priced scopes. For the money I'm very happy with it. Got it on sale pretty cheap and it came with a spotting scope that was decent.

Still bummed I missed out on a Zeiss for around $250. ugh
