Tubes or Worms?

I've been trying out a bunch of plastics this summer and still experience a lot of uncertainty when deciding what to tie on out on the water. I tend to lean towards tubes more, but only because I am more comfortable fishing them.

What fundamentals do you rely on when selecting a tube over a worm or vice versa? Which conditions are opportune for either choice?

I tend to base my judgment on a couple of things. If fishing conditions are tough(IE cold front or high pressure) I will reach for a tube first. I will also reach for a tube quicker if fishing thick cover as a tube will penatrate cover easier. When fishing stained water I will usually grab a worm first as it will put off more vibration.

I go with the lure that I've had most confidence in when trying to decide what plastic to use AS well as trying to figure out cover, depth, location of the day/night I'll be fishing.

I have lots of confidence in fishing a worm so I will work that a lot around docks, inside weedlines, and reeds.

BUT from my experience so far the key to my success is what I listed above.

Black Powerbait Worm is the ticket for me...use worm hook with bullet sinker. Make the worm weedless by threading through the top of the worm first...then out of the worm...then bury the hook into the worm...works well. You guys probably already know that trick though.

But what about these tubes you guys are talking about? What kind and size tubes? And what kind of hook and sinker type system you use or do you use a jighead??? Tanx.

I like to use tubes shallow and in thicker cover. I usually will opt. with a worm on a weedegde.

But you never know what they are going to bite untill you try it; so try both in the same area. Sometimes one will produce better, other times you can get them on both lures. I like to experiment untill I figure them out.

UncleJske. I like the smaller tubes. I mostly use the 3.5" tubes and like the natural colors with red or green speckle. There are many many makers of tubes but I have not found one brand to really outproduce the other. For the set up there are many ways. However, I would recommend a hook and weight combo made by Owner. The weight is already tied to the hook. You simply run your tube threw and you are good to go. I bury the hook so that I can fish rocks whatever and no snags. I also strongly encourage you to use a senko or the imitations. The slow fall seems to really work on the bass. Especially the smallies...
