1st ever catfish!!! what a ride!!

I was out fishing my favorite metro big bass lake on friday. The bass bite was slow until it felt like I hooked into a 6 pounder or even bigger. It honestly took me 5 minutes to get it into the boat it put up such a tough fight. I didnt realize it was a channel cat until it finally surfaced, suprised me like you wouldnt believe. I knew they have been stocking this lake with channels but in the 40 plus times I have fished it,I had never seen one or even heard of one caught. The fish was 24 inches long, anyone have a guess as to what it might have weighed? I must say, I have a new respect for catfishing now,it was a blast.

WOW!! I wouldnt have guessed it to be that heavy, I felt guilty calling it 7 pounds.lol. This is the first cat I have ever caught so it was a pretty exciting catch.

welcome to catfish world. These fish is one of the best fighting fish around. Try fishing catfish in the river. They fight like crazy, if you are lucky you might catch a big one(30-40 lbs). Caught a 40 lbs flathead once on a 20 lbs line and it took almost an hour to land the fish, It was a fight of a life time, never had that much fun ever.
