    one dimensional bass fishermen

yes and no.For my first couple of years bass fishing, it was topwater and spinner baits in the shallows. Then I learned to use T-rigged plastics and stuck to those for a couple years while still reverting to topwater and spinners on occasion. Last year it was the jig, this year Im a hardcore tuber. I tend to use somehting new that works until I beat it to death, but I will always go back to the stuff I learned in the past on occasion. I guess it's a good thing in the end since Im learning new ways to fish. The problem is when I learn those new ways, I take them a bit to far.

    Best Metro Bass Lake?

crooked lake is probably my favorite small Big Bass lake in the metro, alot of big ones in there. Seams to be getting harder and harder to find them lately though. For the last 10-15 years it has been a catch and release on largemouth over 14 0r 16 inches. I was just out there on friday and hooked into what I will guess was a 6 pound channel cat. I knew they stocked them in crooked but I had never seen one before, what a fun fight that thing was.

1st ever catfish!!! what a ride!!

I was out fishing my favorite metro big bass lake on friday. The bass bite was slow until it felt like I hooked into a 6 pounder or even bigger. It honestly took me 5 minutes to get it into the boat it put up such a tough fight. I didnt realize it was a channel cat until it finally surfaced, suprised me like you wouldnt believe. I knew they have been stocking this lake with channels but in the 40 plus times I have fished it,I had never seen one or even heard of one caught. The fish was 24 inches long, anyone have a guess as to what it might have weighed? I must say, I have a new respect for catfishing now,it was a blast.

What to do when a bass misses your buzz bait 101

yes, a very common problem.I can say I dont think I have ever had a pike go after my buzzer's, maybe Im just lucky that way...lol. I have also heard and I tend to believe it, that many times what your seeing is a bass just swiping at your lure and not intending to bight it,just smack it because the noise is annoying them. I cant say with complete confidence that this is the case, but for as often as it happens I tend to believe it. Still makes for alot of fun just to see the bass attack it though.

    I need 1 or 2 rod/reel combo's....help

thanks for the tips guy's. I realize the lighter lure will take away from my casting distance, maybe I just need to play around with my brakes on my current curado which is a SF model. As far as the 20-25 lb line,it's not so much for getting the fish out of the cover as it is for fighting some tough hang ups. Thanks again

    I need 1 or 2 rod/reel combo's....help

I want to get into more heavy cover fishing this year throwing frogs, weightless tubes and worms into the thick lilly pads just for something new and exciting to do. In the past I would use my spinning reel with 10 lb line on it becuase it casted these light weight lures very well, but it was tough fighting a bass out of the cover. I have tried recently throwing these same lures with my 14 lb medium action rod with curado reel and I cant seam to throw them very far. Since I need a couple more rods and reels, what might be a nice setup for this application using 20-25 lb line.

    Spinnerbait tactics

Im a far cry from being a fishing expert, but here's what I do. I generally try to cast to areas I feel will hold bass, but cast a bit beyond that point and reel through it. Areas suck as casting deep into some reeds, into a gap in the lilly pads, over the top of a submerged log, next to a dock and so on. I never change my retrieve speed in the middle of the retrieve. Some times it works better to reel on the fast side where the blades ripple the surface and sometimes to run it a foot below the surface. The biggest key in my opinion is to throw it and retrieve it through an area you feel a bass may be hangin out.

    demontreville

This is my 1st post, been trolling the forums all day and Im impressed with the site. Im taking a buddy fishing this weekend or next, he's finally getting hooked on Bass fishing and he wants to try Demontreville since he only lives a few blocks away. I have always heard it's a good bass lake but I have never fished it since I have a good 5-6 lb producing lake here in the northern suburbs. Anyone have any good pointers on where to fish or what to use on this lake? Im hoping to land him something over 3 lbs this year to really get him hooked. Thanks in advance for any tips you can offer.
