Fishing bow?

Recommended Posts

I looking for a used bow to start out bowfishing. I've never done this before, so all advice would be appreciated.

What things should I look for in a bow?

How about a reel?

Anything else I should know?

Anyone have an old bow they want to unload?

ralph, light poundage is the key.. you need a bow that can be turned down to about 40 lbs or even less... In my opinion. Those fiberglass arrows are just not made for the heavier pound bows.. A recurve works best. Look for them at garadge sales!

Look for something cheap until you are sure you like the sport. Try watching hsolist. You never know what will come around. I have an AMS reel. I really like it. It cost a little more but I think it is worth it. I also like having a mechanical release. Just my 2 cents though. Good luck.

Be careful! Invest in a good reel! One time when I was using a cheap winder reel, the string got wrapped around something on my bow and when that heavy arrow hit the end, it made me glad it wasn't around my pinkie!!!!
