where to put a lms332c

GotOne

Question

I have a side console (Tourny pro 175) and want to buy a 332c. Trouble is I do all my trolling using the bow mount trolling mtr. I don't know if a Johnny Ray mount would be the way to go-if I could see it and I don't want to keep turning around to look at it. I'm currently running one of my depth finders to the bottom of the trolling mtr and have the other on the dash. Any suggestions? Do I have to buy 2 depth finders?

I have my LMS-332c in the back by my tiller for finding structure and following the contours of the Lakemaster/Lowrance MMC chip. I have it on a RAM mount so I can spin it to the front of the boat. I have my VEXILAR on the front of the boat for given me specific depth while casting in the front.

With THAT color screen, you can see the graph pretty darn good in the front!!

If you put it on a Ram and want to spin it so you can see it up front make sure you dont have a dark windshield. You wont be able to see the graph threw it if ya do. Taking the windshield off every time you go up front to troll is a pain. I would find a older x-97 or something and put it in front. If ya really need gps up front see if ya can find a lms332 or something like it.

I run my 332 up front and a 15 and 87 on the dash, that way I dont have to worry about twisting around all the time. Thats the easiest but not the cheapest way I know.

I do know some guys that just disconect the unit off the dash and then put it up front. Both on Ram mounts. Thats a big hassle to me though.

I have mine on the console and if I were going to do it over I would have it put up front. Great unit and I may add another on the front. If you can only have one my vote would be up front!!

Thanks for the thoughts. I was thinking of the 102 in the front, however I want to add the lakemaster chip and troll from the front. Might just have to mount it on the front or buy 2. Have some Cabela's bucks begging to get spent.

If you buy another GPS unit up front you can save about $200 by getting it without the GPS Module. You can order another network conection from Lowrance and run two units off of one GPS module. They won't be able to share information back and forth to eachother but they will both be able to use the GPS module.

I have a Navigator 185 with with the 2 bubble windshields that are tinted and hard to see through. I have a 18c mounted with a RAM mount on the dash and a 332 with a Johnny Ray mount on the bow. Both have GPS. It's a few extra bucks, but I love it and wouldn't do it any other way. Just my $.02.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
