SD trip suggestions

I'm interested in a SoDak Pheasant trip for this fall. I've never been hunting there and need suggestions. Cost is a factor (no $5000 trips for this guy). I'd like to spend 3 days in the field. I'm bringing my own dog.

Thoughts/ideas?

Plenty of public land to hunt, if you want to do it on the cheap I would go late season. There are a lot less people, hotel rooms are cheaper, and people are more willing to allow permission to hunt. There are still plenty of birds around, and you can actually spend a whole day in the field instead of having your limit in 10 minutes. Thats not really hunting to me anyway...

Another option to consider is Kansas...there is nothing but land there, and they have a great bird population along with a fair number of quail. Licsenses are cheaper and its not that bad of a drive.

A good friend of mine does some guiding near Wessington Springs. I could set you up with him if you want.

If you are not willing to pay, you still have a few options. Lots of public land and there are still a few people who will let you hunt.

I will agree and say you can get by on public land alone. Another positive side to late season is you know most of the corn will be out by then, thus making it easier to find birds. they may be a little wild but they will be bunched up and no hiding in acres of fields full of corn.
