Frog Trap

Anyone know of way to live trap frogs?

I often accidently catch frogs in minnow traps that are left on land. You probably wont catch many this way..but you may try to modify it to actually catch frogs. What usually happens is when the minnow trap is on land...bugs get inside and I believe the frogs then go in to get the bugs and then cant get out. I have the cylinder type traps ..I imagine if you got one of the those square minnow traps...and recessed it in the ground a few inches and then get some crickets from the pet store put those in there and by morning I bet you'd have some frogs. Probably some toads as well..I think the sqare ones would work better they have a wider opening. Hope some of this helps or at least gives you some ideas.

The best method I've found is to build a deck. Yes, a deck for your house. When waiting for the inspector to come and look at your holes for the footings, for some odd reason, frogs will jump right in.

Building decks one summer, I couldn't keep the frogs out of the holes. Even placing plywood covers over the holes was not enough. They'd still manage to plop inside. EVERY hole needed to be de-frogged before being poured.

Moose-hunter - My uncle had the same problem when he was digging for the foundation to build his old house. Except there were only a few frogs. Most of the victims were back salamanders with blue spots. My brother and I caught dozens of them. Every time we thought we had the last one out, we would turn around and see 6 or 7 more.

I dont know about traps but I can tell you an easy way to catch them. When I was a kid back in Iowa we used to catch them with a regular pan fish set up. We would find a farm pond or swampy area loaded with them. Hook a piece of red felt on a tiny hook and dangle it in front of them. I dont know what it is about red but they go bonkers trying to eat the felt. We could catch an average of 30-50 frogs everytime we went out. Works for both bull frogs and leopards.

When I was a kid I made a bit of dough on these little rascals. Used to take a fly rod with a small dry fly attached to it. Go to the swamp area around our place dangle the fly above or in the cattails and fish for them. That was back in the days when frogs were all over. Don't see many now days. But this technique was very effective.

dont those bull frogs get (very mad) whe the bite on your hook. ive caught a few by accident an they dont like it at all

yeah a giant sombrero hat with big frog boots and a little net. oh dont forget your bucket.

find someone that lives in the country and has water in the area. If they have window well in the ground, frogs cant resist falling in them. You just have to jump down and grab them. Look out for muskrats and snakes and mice. I have egress windows and I get dozens of them in a couple nights. my only problem is keeping them alive and not making my house stink. ff

Reminds me of growing up. My room had an egress window and I awoke one night to find an angry skunk stuck in it. Not fun!
