Gordon - Next American Idol

Recommended Posts

What a moron. Not only does he get boo'd out of Nascar tracks wherever he goes, now he gets it at baseball stadiums! The guy is a robot. No personality or anything that makes you want to like him. He can drive, but other than that he's lifeless.

What American doesn't know the words to "Take me out to the Ballgame?" Then people wonder why the blue-collar American fans in the south don't support him. He's a yuppie for yuppie fans. I'll cheer the good ol' boy anyday, not this poser.

I know Nascar needs to diversify and can't remain bottled up, but IMO these drivers with open-wheel backgrounds are ruining the sport. It won't be long before it's the caviar and champagne crowd's sport, just like Indy. It's no fun anymore.........

Who's a "good ol' boy" driver? I don't see anyone turning down the cash, other than maybe Biffle and he ain't no red neck.

My wife dosen't know the words to "take me out to the ball game" because she dosen't follow baseball, does that make her a bad person too?

Nice post TROLL!! Gordon is the best driver and he doesn't need to sing. Besides if you really watched and followed the sport you'd know he said on Trackside the week before that he didn't know why they'd booked him to sing when he can't sing and doesn't even know the song. He was just in Chicago to give $1,000,000 to a children's hospital so they scheduled it...what a jerk huh? Giving a million bucks to a children's hospital, ya you just have to hate him...

I DID watch Trackside and I DID see what he said. So, that would tell me I should probably go learn the words if I were going to perform it soon. Geez, pretty simple to figure out to try to save some face value. I guess he didn't learn from Ashley Simpson at the Orange Bowl. hahahahaha. If throwing money around makes up for it, then go for it. I hope he feels better.

I do really watch and follow the sport, thank you very much. Enough to know that blatently claiming Gordon "the best driver" just shows me how much your rose colored glasses need a cleaning. grin.gif

hahaha....that was an AWEFUL rendition of the song!! I laughed pretty hard when I saw it on the news and could only ask myself..."WHAT WAS HE THINKING!!!???" I love Gordon, he's my favorite driver....but let's be real...that was just terrible!!! I still chuckle about it. At least he was able to laugh at himself too. He knew he was stinking up the joint. smile.gif

mnfishinguy...I don't think LMITOUT is saying if you don't know the song it makes you a bad person....not at all. But, most people in this country do know it. And even if they don't know it, when you're at a game, they post the words up on the big screen so you can sing it. But again, I don't think LMITOUT was saying anything of the sort that if you don't know the song you're a bad person.

LMITOUT...by the way...nice post title...Next American Idol...that's funny!

Jeff Gordon is not my favorite driver but the guy can race,if hes great that is yet to be decided.I guess maybe he could have practiced his singing a little, but he is a race car driver not a singer in his defense.Alot of darn good drivers running right now and yes Gordon is probably close to the top,yet we cant forget people like Johnson,Busch and a few others. The class act might be Mark Martin.

I don't really care to have a full blown Jeff Gordon debate, but if a guy has four cups (would be five but for the change in points system) and 72 wins already, I can't fathom how his place as one of the greats in the sport isn't already firmly secured. He's already at or near the top of most record categories and he's only 33. What would he need to do to convince some of you people???? He quits today and he's already accomplished more than enough to be considered a great driver.

Mediocre talent, cheap shot mentality see 05 Busch Martinsville, 97 Daytona crowded Sr into wall which spun out Irvan and DJ which flipped Irvans hood, injured 3 spectators. 1999 Jiffy Lube 300 sideswiped Rusty into wall, punted DJ throughout the final lap leading to garage confrontation. Want to hear more?? I have plenty.

Has he EVER driven an underfunded car. Has always had the best equipment to use. He was given the best cars, the best engines and full factory backing. Kind of unheard of for a rookie. Who was the last rookie to actually fight for a win at Daytona???? Sr. did it in Rod Osterlund's unsponsored, self funded in 1979.

How bout the relationship with Brooke? Winston forbid her from having a relationship with a driver, a rule the sponsor had going for ages. Jeff broke that rule.

During 1997--Revealed in print in the Winston-Salem Journal made clear that Gordon had been essentially the sole recipient of GM engineering backing. Gordons teams had more engineers than anyone else. A Nascar offical pointed "I dont know why Earnhardts guys dont have acess to it." This engineering gap between Gordon and the rest, caused the formation of RAD. RCR, DEI and Petree forming an alliance because of GM neglect. Anybody remember Tiregate??? I have also heard a rumor that he and Evernham used traction control??????

Sounds like he fell in to right job in the right place. Guys like B Labonte and K Wallace which regularly bested Gordon in BGN, had to learn, pay their dues, driving lesser eqiupment. They had to prove that they had potential. I think Gordon was and is very lucky. He was in the right place at the right time. I would bet anything that if you put B. Labonte or K. Wallace in the same situation, you would probaly see the same result. It just shows what you can do when you have the most thoroughly engineered, most lavishly funded racecars the sport has ever seen.

Seriously, thats just sad, and further solidifies my theory that Gordon haters are jealous DE fans. Look at your boys NAPA, Bud and Napa throw plenty of money into the DEI coffers and DEI started with all the knowledge of "Sr.". How can DEI not be swimming in money with all the commercials and merchandise sales. If 24 is such a dirty driver how come he hasn't been given a knickname like "the intimidator". This ain't your daddy's nascar, comparing an unsponsored car from 79 to nowadays is (F------ S-----).

My favorite memory so far of this season is when Jr. took the lead at Daytona and the sea of red rose to its feet only to return to their seat 1 lap later thanks to the 24. No wonder you hate him so much.

Lawdog:

As all know iam not a Gordon fan,and yes he is very good and the very good equipment comes along with that.Jeff will one day go down in the books as one of the better drivers,at this time we just dont know where. He does have very good stuff and i will say that his team is one of the best at starting poor and then adjusting his car so that at the end of the race his car is there.I love to watch Jr. race and always cheer for him, maybe because of his Father ,I dont know. But,if he keeps racing with his team mate the way he is now,I dont know if I would want to be his team mate or anyone else.DEI has some serious issuses to deal with and they need to do it soon.Last weeks accident with the 15 car was bad,and with a team mate even worse.Jr has the abillity to race well but is not showing it this year.Getting hard to cheer for him. This is only my opinion.

I just asked myself "Why is he so hated?" I checked around did a research. Re-educated myself. Its stupid to hear that Gordon had an advantage over other drivers. People dont like the truth. The truth hurts. Take him off the pedstal guys. Is it that hard to believe, he may have had an advantage.

Gordon fans are the same all you hear "Jeff is the best" bla bla bla Some stupid countdown bout how many wins he has. Its very very easy to cheer for a guy who wins.

I was comparing Jeffys rookie year to Sr. rookie years.

Why I am a member of the sea of red.

I almost lost my father near the same time Dale Sr died. He was in a coma for a long time. I am very close to same age as Jr. The thought of not having a father around was probably the same as he thought. Only he has to live it. You can really see the love in the videos after a race with Jr. and Sr. I remember hearing a story about Dale Sr. from DW or somebody about a race in which Sr finished 2nd. The broadcaster was clearly rooting of the car in front of Dale. After the race, the broadcaster apologized to Dale and Dale lowered his glasses and said "Dont you ever forget the I am a father too" After going through the accident with my father I realized that everyday is not promised to everybody. So I really feel for Jr because I lost my father too for a moment. Jr. just seems more down to earth, go out drinkin, play playstation. Closer to my generation, maybe. A blue collar driver, others have said Sr. was the working mans driver.

I would bet that both knew the words too. grin.gif

Nice post NAPAFISH.

Ever stop to think that maybe Gordons advantage during those years was that he was Jeff Gordon and Ray Evernham was his crew cheif/mentor? I am not a Gordon fan (Was a long time Martin fan, and we all know how Gordon took Martins cups) but I have to say, that boy can drive. Maybe, just maybe he is that good?

To all of you Gordon haters, ask yourself this, If your driver had that same record as Gordon does, would that make your driver the best???
