Barometer Q

I know if the barometer goes up its harder on fish and tends to push them in deeper water. My q is what is the average barometer reading for this area.

The barometer ranges from 29.0 to 30.5. Today is was around 29.7 Anything over 30 is generally stable weather. I would say it averages about 29.9. If it's falling, get fishin.

29.92 inches of Mercury (I.O.M.) is the so-called "standard" sea level barometer. It is basically the average sea level barometric pressure. During the course of a year, the highest pressure your are likely to see id around 30.40, and the lowest around 29.50.. HOwever, most aquatic barometric readings are done in Millibars.. 29.92 would equal 1013.2 millibars...

I have a baro on me when I am fishing.. Right now it reads 1006 mil...

Where can a guy purchase a Barometer? I know you can buy the wall units at the local department stores, but I was thinking of something smaller and maybe digital.Something durable that can be in my tackle box?

Big fish, I bought a digital one that clips to my belt loop. It also has a compas, timer, alarm, altimiter, stopwatch, and temp.. I think it was about $160? Bought it at Gander Mtn.

Yep, that be me... I was in bemidji from about 1989-1995, PE Degree, and worked at Kobilkas.

When the barometer is rising it means high pressure. High pressure means clear skys. Clear skys means more light penetration. More light penetration means the fish go deeper.

If you've been fishing deep water this dosn't mean much.

I have not seen the Barometer read under 29.7 in 5 months now.

Man you bring up some memories... Thats me, and yes my room mate was a tad odd... and yep right across the hallway. Matter of fact the slug ended up in my clothes dresser. Man that was scary!
