collegeoutdoorsman
Was fishing with a friend on the Minnesota river last weekend and he caught, actually more like snagged, this fish. Is it a goldeye or a mooneye? When he casted the rapala it must have landed right on the it's head because he was on right away.

DTro
looks like bait to me I'd say mooneye
ricqik
Mooneye's dorsal fin begins before the anal fin. Goldeye's dorsal fin begins at and slightly after the anal fin.
Fisher Dave
I call them all mooneyes.. is there that much of a difference?Them things are very aggressive fish.. I have no doubt it took the lure.. I have caught them on plastic worms to big rapalas to daredevils .. and just about everything in between.. is their a live bait they dont hit?Great catfish bait. wildcatcreek
I say goldeye, because the dorsal and anal fins begin at the same place.
goblueM
Also goldeyes have a bright yellow eye... hard to tell in the pic. Thats some good bait right there!Or some delicious smoked fish... tasty
icehousebob
I was fishing the Red and I loaned a rod to a young girl whose family was sharing rods. She caught a gold eye and yelled," Hey dad, I caught a cutbait." That was their name for all of them.
wildcatcreek
Goldeye are fun to catch when they're being ravenous. They have nasty teeth too. Here's one I caught just the other day.
