Nascar Penatlies

Why is there such a difference in the penatlies for wrong doing from Nascar? Jr and a few others get point loss for wrong doings, yet Kurt Busch gets almost nothing and Green and Waltrip get next to nothing for thiers.I guess saying a bad word(sh--) is one thing off the track yet others on the track is thought of as minor? Guess it depends on who you are.One so-so- bad word is i guess worth trying to take away a championship and the on the track doings, where others could get hurt means nothing.Nascar says they are sick and tired of Kurt Busches bull, yet a lap or two of penalty is enough as he should have learned his lesson, fair i guess.

I did see that they are not doing anything about it. Kind of makes you wonder with Jr. swearing and the Busch guy that gave DJ the finger it would seem that Nascar has set a standard that they are now not upholding.

There is no inconsistency there you guys miss the biggest factor in this, the FCC. None of us even knew what Busch did for a long time after the race. He didn't swear in a televised interview and he didn't give the inspector the bird on TV either. Its no great conspiracy against Jr. and no one needed to try to take any championship away from him as his own driving did that amply well again last year. Geez if anything NASCAR loves its little golden boy and bends over backwards for him!!!

Probably because for the last two years he was voted most popular driver. He is responsible for bringing in LOTS of fans and LOTS of money for Nascar. Whether they love him or not there was no favor shown in his penalty. It was more like making an example of him. Points reflect a racers driving ability, and should be used as a penalty for driving offenses, not foul language.

No, it was being consistent. They had done the same thing to another driver for the same violation already so how is it making an example of him?

By the way, I do agree they shouldn't take points away for that, but that is what they had already done and had told the drivers they would do, so it was right in that instance. I think they should change that though...

Jr didn't bring lots of fans to nascar, most of them were already there. He got his dads fans. Nascar got huge because of guys like Dale SR, Bill Elliot, Rusty Wallace and Jeff Gordon. Don't make it seem like Little E saved nascar and made it what it is today.

Ok, I'll even give you that one. Even so, whether you love him or hate him, he IS the reason many people watch, and many more people continue to watch, and for some strange reason sponsors seem to love him winning or not.

Could the same be said about Kyle Petty, son of "the King"?

Jr definately brings in a lot of new young fans. I'm 20 years old and its the young drivers and especially Jr that appeal to me and my friends that watch nascar. I know a lot young nascar fans that love Jr, you can't say he hasn't brought new fans into the sport.

Funny thing is, I like Jr, hes a cool cat. I just like getting his fans all worked up. I suppose there on edge since DEI forgot how to win. grin.gif I said most of his fans are his dads not all of them. Yea, its all good when people pick on Gordon but don't pick on the overrated JR.

If then took points away for things said over the radio, then they would have to take them away for everyone saying things on the radio, right? At the end of Bristol drivers would have less points then when they started!

Just remember one thing....Jr NEVER asked to be the "most popular driver" or any of that. His fans have made him the popular driver he is. And NASCAR, being money hungry hypocrits, jumping at every chance to make a quick buck-(much like McMahon of WWF/WWE) they are along for the ride taking full advantage of it. Makes me wonder what the other drivers think about it all. For one, they are probably glad it isn't them in the limelight, giving them more free time/family time. As far as how Jr.'s year is going so far, I'd like to see ANY other top ten driver do what he has done....start over fresh, new cars, crew etc. I bet the results wouldn't me much different. Sure, I am a Jr. fan, but I am also a fan of ALOT of other drivers. I used to watch Jr. in the Busch series when I could years ago, and think he gets a bad rap for having the "name". Only a fool would assume that just because their last name is Earnhardt, (or any other champion driver) that they should be able to perform like their namesake. Kyle Petty, Mike Waltrip, Dale Jarrett, for example. My point is this...I, for one, am tried of the constant driver slamming in this forum, and up til this point have remained silent. Some people take this wayyyy too seriously. The funny thing is...in "REAL LIFE", most of these drivers get along great off the track, and when they have free time actually hang out together. These are the very same drivers that the media tries to make out to be "enemies", out for blood. When in reality, it is the opposite. Kinda reminds me of grade school rumors actually! (ok done venting now) grin.gif

lee your post is just fine. Were just a couple of die hard fans of our racers. Its all in fun, just trying to get each other going. It would be boring if everyone agreed. I don't take it serious and its just entertaining.

Hey LEE, it was a good topic!! It just gets old people bashing everyone, I understand people have there own opinions but like I said it is getting real old hearing all the bashing!!! Can't a guy just talk racing instead of turning it in to a fight???

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD FISHING!!!

Boy isn't that the truth!!! I was at the "99" Michigan race and all I heard on the scanner was !$@%#^$ and !$#^$!@#@ I thought it was cool but I guess now days with this being a "FAMILY" sport the guys have to be very careful about what they say on there radios, instead of being themselves!!! It kindof sucks but I guess CASHCAR has to do what they think is right even if it isn't always the right decision!!!

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD FISHING!!!

Fortunately Perch, NASCAR has said they won't bring their fines and penalties into radio traffic between the team. I think that is what saved Busch actually from a fine and loss of points. I've heard lots on those scanners too and like I said initially the big piece missing was the FCC and the broadcasting issue (because it was over the radio and not in an interview). Its all Janet Jackson's me's fault!!!
