For Buzzbaits I like a MH 7' rod.. usualy fishing in and around a lot of heavy cover.. either with braid or 15 lb mono...

For spooks and Chug baits, I usually fish a 6' 6" or even a 6' rod, Medium action to help the trebles stay hooked. 10 lb mono.

For buzzers, I like a 6'6" or 7 foot MH with 30lb. braided line. You're usually fishing in or around junk, so a stout outfit is good to have. This outfit also works well for fishing topwater frogs and spoons.

For chuggin', poppin', or any of the like I prefer a 7 foot Medium action rod with 12 pound test. I like it for the very reason Deitz does, there's some give in the outfit and the fish aren't as likely to shake the bait.

Buzzbait - 7' MH rod, 15lb. Big Game mono, longer rod helps in casting, hooksetting, and fish fighting power. I've tried using 20lb. Fireline and keep bouncing between the Big Game and the Fireline. There are pluses to each.

Spook - 6'6" MH rod, 15lb. Big Game mono. a 6'6" rod is right in the middle, perfect for walking the dog, not too long, and still enough rod to get a good hook set at long distances. I really stress the importance of a heavy mono line for spooks. The heavy line will help the nose of the spook ride high and allows you to walk the dog better.

Popper - 6'6" Medium, 12lb. line. 6' rods make popping and walking the dog much easier than 7', but don't offer the casting or hooksetting power, therefore a 6'6" rod fits the bill perfectly. A medium power is recommended because poppers are typically lighter in weight than your spooks, sammy's, frenzy walkers, etc.

Good Luck!

Deitz,

Good question. We're both fairly tall, so I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue for you. I wonder if I'm not up higher in my boat than the bass boat guys. I don't work the rod up, but I might work it to the side. I've never thought that hard about it.

I like 7 the longer rods for fish control abilities. But, I bet I am not as accurate casting.

Dangit, Deitz. Now you got me thinking again. Knock it off! I'm going turkey hunting. grin.gif

I like a 7' MH for buzzer's. Longer casts and you can actually direct the buzzer (to some extent) on the retrieve so you can bang it off of things or go around things.

For chuggers and spooks, a 5'6" meduim pistol grip, great accuracy, and I can pop the chugger or "walk to dog" without slapping water.

i use a 7' for buzz and at times for poppers etc. but do use a 6'6" too. i have noticed ; that some times the fish will bust a popper when i lift the rod to work the lure more so than if i work it to the side or the rod tip down/ confused.gif but i fish out of a ranger fisherman series , so it am further above the water than if fishing from a bass boat.( and i'm short!!! tongue.gif) grin.gif
